Looking at the Internet Archive for typescriptlang.org, most (but not all) of their original samples are doing something in a browser[0], so while it definitely became popular with backend developers, I don't know if I would go so far

That's not how taxes on RSUs work (at least federally in the US). Nothing happens when RSUs are granted because they have no value until they vest. Once the RSUs vest, you are taxed based on the cost basis of $0 (since you pay nothing

I think Teams is actually just leveraging the Skype backend. I looked at some of the network calls happening in their web app, and some requests are referencing skype (e.g. https://amer.ng.msg.teams.microsoft.com/v1/use

I personally disagree with people who disable JS and expect the web to continue working as expected, but one of the other downsides of using Canvas for such animations is that there is no good way of exposing that animation to screen reader
