PHP sucks as a language, but honestly, it's a LOT less painful to develop a working web app in PHP than Java, Python, and just about everything else. Why? There's no deployment issues. There's no waiting for my app server to restart, no de

SQLAlchemy is pretty much the only ORM I've used that DIDN'T suck. It's great, especially after seeing Java / Hibernate hell.

Yep, I saw this same thing. Mountains of XML deployment descriptors / "component wiring" (some "Spring" garbage), needlessly verbose and usually unneeded mapper classes, useless interfaces (my rule is if you are only going to have ONE imple

I don't hate the Java language or the JVM. However, I hate many of the Java APIs, specifically most "JEE" crap, such as EJB, JMS, most third party ORMs (Hibernate), most Java "web frameworks" (too numerous to list). Java IDEs are bloated, s

Actually, they don't say that. They just say it can't be marked free in a PROMINENT manner.

for a corp with no assets, i would've refused to pay and not bothered with the annual reports. after a number of years that stuff just goes off the books. you might get some nasty letters. yawn.

If your production environment is Linux but you're developing on another platform, what do you expect? You'd have the same issues if you developed on Debian and deployed on RedHat Enterprise.

Yep, I do the same thing essentially. I can't quite get to 100 WPM, but I'm in the high 80's and most people remark how fast I type. Heh. Never learned to touch type the "right" way... Not sure I'd want to...

JWU is mostly known for hospitality / culinary related studies. It's not known for being a technical / engineering school at all.

So how much profit are you making? 100k/month is no good if you're not making any money and paying it all out.

what were you trying to do? I've found the UIWebView to be pretty decent and have worked on some hybrid native/web apps. I have native code calling into JS code that runs in UIWebView, and JS code calling back into Obj-C, etc.

The difference is PHP is thread (or, rather, process) per connection. Node is one process handing multiple connections.

yep. this is the same reason most JEE development sucks - constant restarting of your app servers during development. why not "hot deploy"? hot deploy doesn't work when you're working with other developers who are violating the JEE spec (ma

Suspect slacking? Slacking is a given. I have yet to have a programming job where more than 4 hours a day of "work" was required.

Look at a high-end Amiga from ~20 years ago (such as an Amiga 3000). You have roughly 75% of what we have today on a much lower end hardware platform. Sad, isn't it?
