Either way they have to install something (either your app or the AIR runtime). At least installing the AIR runtime once, gives them access to other AIR applications as well.

I wonder how much the new Android phones and all of the Android buzz in general weighed on this decision. With a competing open platform out there, Apple was clearly at risk of losing developer mindshare and support.

Couldn't Adobe just make the Flash runtime available as a free download from the App Store in the interim. Maybe even an AIR-like runtime -- scaled down for performance. Obviously, Adobe would like full integration with the browser, but a

With the new Macbooks being released shortly, the MBP will need quite a substantial upgrade to justify the price premium. It seems likely that many of the enhancements will be implemented. The HD webcam is probably pushing it a bit, but a

When starting a new website or any business, I think the most important part is being passionate about the product or service you are trying to sell or the problem you are trying to solve. Usually, being passionate about something, means i

Agreed. Just because a language has a low barrier to entry, doesn't mean it should be blamed for bad code. I linked to the KohanaPHP framework source as an example of very well written PHP code.

I would highly-recommend reviewing the source code of the KohanaPHP framework. It is very clean, elegant and well-structured OOP code written by some very talented developers. http://www.kohanaphp.com

As long as the library is solid, the docs are complete and the tutorials and demos are great, it doesn't really matter what the site looks like.

There doesn't seem to be as many good free apps on the Mac as there are on Windows. However, most of the really good Mac apps are relatively cheap and high-quality.

Very true. Why not just setup a staging server on the VM and use MAMP and benefit from the quick save and preview. Then sync up to your VM for staging to test your deployment.

Thanks for all the great feedback. I'm going to opt for an annual billing plan implemented via the Freshbooks API for now. Since I won't have a merchant account, I will not be able to offer a recurring monthly option. I was researching me

Interesting article. Although, I'm not sure about the following statement: "Entry-level developers seem to make about 75k-90k a year in most places." That's seems to be a bit overestimated, at least for an entry-level web developer.

Getting Real was definitely very motivating for me and changed my outlook on web development for the better. Big thanks to the team at 37Signals for putting it out there for all to learn from ... even though it cost me $20 to get it early

37 Signals is a great example of how it takes more than good technology to succeed. Although, I doubt it's as simple as they make it seem. However, after reading their articles, it's hard not to think, "I can do that to."

PHP has many good lightweight frameworks that put the fun back into building web apps. CodeIgniter and KohanaPHP are especially lightweight. It isn't much fun coding web apps in raw Ruby, Python or any language.

PHP gets a lot of bad press (some deserved, some not) -- but you can't fault the language. When PHP was first released, it was a major advancement over PERL and SSI which prevailed at the time. With the growing adoption of PHP5 and the up

Maybe Mozilla is making Firefox more Vista-compatible. :) Seriously speaking, the author didn't mention which add-ons, if any, were installed. In the end, if Mozilla really uses this much RAM, it comes down to a tradeoff: if you need to co
