It's not that we're delicate, it's that poor communication between users and maintainers leads causes problems. As for "one comment", OP already mentioned that defensiveness is becoming an issue in the community.

I'm a daily Julia user but tbh I've gotta agree with parent commenter. I think Jeff's attitude in the "What's bad about Julia" talk is the right way to handle criticism: listen to the person, ask about their us

Spacemacs has like four different keybinding modes, one of them is regular emacs mode. I thought it was pretty good. I haven't used doom myself but I know people like it.

In some sense, they're not in the same category. The old joke "Emacs is a great operating system, it just needs a good text editor" is basically true. If you like vim, try Doom Emacs or Spacemacs. If I were going for pure tex

Different people can call you by different names. Same with companies and governments. It's not like the name the government addresses you by is your real name.

Ok I read it. I get what you're saying. Refusing to call people by their preferred pronouns is impolite, and if it's a group that has trouble getting recognition then it feels worse. That said, he does have ground to stand on: I

There have been many genderless pronouns proposed over a long time. Declaring singular-they "standard" and then prescribing it despite the other options (and criticising the other options as nonstandard) is just the same old story
