Good point. You'd probably want to match "piece strength" with weight class then, so that a pawn vs. queen is not a fair fight by any means.

I was hoping this would be a team sport: - Each team consists of a chess player and up to 16 boxers - When one piece captures another, their corresponding boxers fight each other - The winner of the bout determines which piece is removed fr

I'm sure you know this, but that's a very dangerous mindset! People aren't meant to be compared; comparison implies a winner and a loser. The truth is that there are no losers here, just different people walking different pat

As someone who's both received and given tips, I love them. Why? Because they're a dead-simple way to convert money to happiness. When I received a big tip, it always brightened my shift a bit. And now, every time I go out to eat,

Finally someone took the initiative. I guess I'm glad that it's a company as big as Google. There are already lots of sites that run on donations; what's missing is a standard model for doing so. Maybe with Google's back

Technically true, but the point is that arrays were the only collection type in Pascal, whereas Go also has slices (which, in my experience, outnumber arrays 10-1 in most codebases).

agreed, I think INI-style (specifically https://code.google.com/p/gcfg ) is a better choice for simple config files. That said, they might be anticipating more complex configs in the future.

The issue is that there's a conflict of interest when the same person who proposed the hypothesis is the same person attempting to prove that hypothesis. This sort of bias is why meta-analysis exists.

That was my first reaction too, but I think we're reaching the point where the increased computational complexity is manageable. Efficiency has certainly never been one of Perl's selling points. I imagine there's a trapdoor a

Neat idea. I generally just use Wolfram|Alpha for these types of calculations, but Frink seems more programmable and doesn't require an Internet connection.
