I don't want anything to do with cryptocurrencies but listening to the founder of Ethereum on the Lex Fridman podcast was fascinating. The way that guy thinks is just impressive. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=3x1b_S6Qp2

Well deserved. I love PyCharm Professional Edition. I remember I got their "startup discount" which is 50% for one year, even though I was just starting a limited company to freelance. https://www.jetbrains.com/sto

Almost all my apps get deployed to Heroku, both professionally and side projects and I opt to use the Heroku Stack instead of deploying my own docker image on Heroku. Even though I use docker locally. One of the main reasons is that Heroku&

That is super interesting. I programmed in Python 2 for a good six years and didn't know it had a long type! >>> type(1) <type 'int'> >>> type(11111111111111111111111111111111111111111111

Not typical computer science courses, but the following video series really improved my understanding of how computers work. - Build an 8-bit computer from scratch video series - https://eater.net/8bit - CPython internals:

Slight tangent, but I recently realised that the built in integer type in Python and Erlang support arbitrary-precision arithmetic while the built in integer types in Go don't. In Go each integer type has a maximum value. eg int32 has

As a Python developer it has to be PyCharm Professional Edition. I am a more effective developer because of it.

Not baked in but you can use AlpineJS with LiveView as they both don't use a virtual DOM. You can do optimistic UI and interactions that don't warrant a round trip to the server like toggling a drop down. See the blog posts below.

Not really a skill but fell running is pretty great. Especially if you can join a club. It is good to have a thing to do that exercises the body instead of the mind.

Agree. Also it seems that some people think TDD is about "do you write tests at all" while others think "do you write tests before the implementation".

I was thinking recently all these layers of abstraction is crazy. I would be simpler to write a Python web server using micro python and deploy to a server farm of esp32 micro controllers. No idea if this is possible.
