Thanks for posting this. I consider myself a Doctorow fan and I didn't realize I let myself slip. I will continue to be a fan but a more critical one.

I do something similar as part of a team that builds bespoke equipment (can't be too specific). It's a full time job for 2 people for runs of around 50 custom half-racks every year. It's definitely a niche, but there's d

This has to be the shittiest take on this story I could possibly imagine. One, this guy is a sports journalist. He wouldn't have covered COVID in any direct sense. Two, you're comparing having to stay indoors to dying in the blist

I am one of those FOSS people. I was all in on Apple up until about 6 months ago (iPhone 13, 13" M1 MBP, AirPods, an iCloud+ sub and some peripherals). My wife still is. The main reasons I left are repairability and upgradability; form

I'd argue most modern software doesn't need to either but has hamfisted features that require it for the sole purpose of making you pay for a subscription. Stuff like Adobe Creative Cloud has some cloud features that lock you into

Any cloud syncing service will sync files the second you save them. IM clients sync by their nature. Web browsers have had sync capabilities for years. I've lived in the Apple ecosystem for a few years and Handoff/Continuity can d
