Damn :( That's very unfortunate (and I am sorry if I got your hopes up). I should have specified that I've only searched for and purchased hardware specific standards not software ones.

FYI for all: the cheapest source of standards available in English (that I have found) is the Estonian Centre for Standardisation and Accreditation: https://www.evs.ee/en Prices are generally single to low double-digit Euro

A part of me would like to think that this whole thing will be a Digg 4.0 moment for Reddit, but cynical me don't think it will be.

Super cool idea but sadly seems to have been slowly dying over the last few years :( (unless something has changed recently?)

And here I was just a few days ago thinking of finally paying for Discord. I'll be shelving that idea now.

I believe that the sentiment is that Google funds Firefox despite it's now poor market share as "antitrust insurance".

I don't mean to sound like a real downer: but I don't see this tool "getting good" for the simple reason of: what are you training it with? I thought ML needs huge datasets? This is great for GitHub's Copilot as the

To me as a user, what's in decline is UI, UX and trust. Lots of software these days is just outright hostile in very "in your factface ways" and subtle ways. Even software I pay for seems to try to screw me at every turn. &qu

One of the most elegant ways I have heard "flow" explained was by an old colleague of mine. He called it "balancing the chandelier". Don't know if it's his thought originally or if he heard it some where but it

So there are others! I've also ever used Chrome and I never will. Also never used IE either. Netscape was way better. I actually found a copy of the Firefox 1.0.14 (I think) installer when going through an old hard drive a few months a

Except that it isn't. They just proved it with their tweet. They wasted a ton of time and money on what they thought was the problem and what sounds like essentially a product recall. A $5k temperature chamber running over night or wee

Completely agree and will continue snarking. Chest freezers, dry ice, pie warmers are cheap. The fridge+freezer and oven in your company kitchen are free. HALT/HAS, 4-corners, thermal cycling and thermal shock testing are all things. T

Yup really. Grab some 5% and 1% resistors and measure them with decent multimeter. You'll find that their values are almost exactly: stated_value+/-tolerance rather than a range of values. i.e a 100k 5% resistor will be almost exa

I will just add to the chorus here: * I graduated as a Computer Engineer. * Worked as EE/EEE entire career (currently almost 14 years). * Half of my class of EEs and CEs went into other careers immediately after graduation because mone

I'd go one step further and say AliExpress is better than Amazon. Anything important I get from a physical store. For cheap crap or stuff I am happy to gamble on, I'd rather cut out the useless price gouging middleman, and go stra

I'm a hardware engineer: The pitchforking on HN about "right to repair" issues. Frankly, those threads degenerate into what I'd expect on reddit. To clarify, I support the problems trying to be solved but a lot of the id

I'm a Hardware Engineer who's lived through a few of these cycles now. I personally wouldn't give the CCP that much credit, at all. In my experience, the signs for this crunch in supply were there. The unusual part is maybe t

I think the controversy is because that while being technically correct (bar a couple of mistakes) there are two main issues: 1) To get the result presented heavily depends on the experimental setup and this appears to be hand-waved away

Just off the top of my head (without doing in-depth research in the to PinePhone specs), potential gotchas: 1) The 1V8 power supply cannot cope with the additional power demand (just cause "it boots" doesn't mean it will be f
