> This is why there is no Java 8 on GAE and probably never will be. Do you have sources for this? Java 7 on GAE took really long and eventually shipped only shortly before Java 8 was released. From history I would expect the same to the

Why would you want to do these in a UI instead of scripting/automating them?

Pipes (like much of UNIX) are stuck in ASCII. The response encoding has no relationship to your UNIX locale. The response would know the encoding but can't pass it on to the pipe because it's a concept from the 70ies. In the end a

Curbing interchange doesn't hurt Visa/MC, it hurts the issuers. Thanks to the Durbin amendment debit interchange is on reasonable levels in the USA and now EU-cross-border credit interchange is on about the same levels. There are

How come IBM is missing from this list? I thought the ditched Harmony and are now contributing to OpenJDK. I remember some keynotes some years ago.

Huh? On Linux getting Oracle JDK is a matter of wget und tar. On Windows and Mac OS you get an installer. If you want OpenJDK on Windows or Mac OS you have to build from source. For me the real difference is that you don't get Flight R

Can't you just backport the Java 8 fixes and build from source?

WebSphere, calling it a bloated, buggy, outdated, overpriced pice of shit would be a compliment. I'll do PHP before I do WebSphere. I'll go jobless before I do WebSphere.

So much bad advice, in general run Flight Recorder or Censum. > With a default memory limit of 1GB (1000 MB) and working memory of about 200 MB Java has to make a full garbage collection every 4 seconds otherwise it would run out of memo

Stories like this really make the case for open source app servers for me. The breadth of functionality they offer is so wide that when something does go wrong not only is it way easier to debug the issue and find out whether your code or t

I'm I the only one who is a bit uneasy with forwarding pointers? In terms of memory use this is like disabling compressed oops and in terms of performance this is like going back to Java 1.1 with an object table.

It sounds like the acquirer needs to be ready to support network-level tokenization. I have no idea how an acquirer can detect what kind of card it is an compute interchange when everything is in the same BIN.

You must be pretty happy with String then, if that's your biggest gripe :-) Do you really mean Iterable<Character> and not Iterable<Integer>. Because a Unicode code point can spawn two chars.

I believe this was done as part of the unification of JavaSE and JavaME VMs. AFAIK saving three instance variables per String instance is a big deal on JavaME. ByteBuffer and CharBuffer are a way of doing array slicing. CharBuffer even impl

Right, you have to buy and pass the test suites (TCK). The thing with Android is they are not close passing the test suites (AFAIK Harmony was close but Android is only a fraction of Harmony). Compare what Android implements: http:/&#

I'm pretty surprised that this article is news. Sonatype has been open about SSL for Maven Central since there has been Nexus or maybe even longer. I remember Jason van Zyl talking about this seven or more years ago.
