I thought there was some startup labs and incubator spaces around here? I keep hearing about something like it at OpenCoffee and Mass Inno.

I just got started with Rackspace, but they seem to be built on solid technology acquired from Slicehost. I like the fact I can add new servers quickly and it has infrastructure support for failover and load balancing through shared IP.

I am in the process of moving my rails app to Rackspace Cloud Servers. It offers three backup images for free, but it only exists as long as the associated server is around. A 256 meg slice only costs $10. So it is actually a pretty good de

The best part of the post was the "Jersey Shore" become a fan on Facebook ad. I am not quite sure what it is mocking, but I like it.

Anyone got a good round up of what happened? The post provided links to parts of the previous conversation but I'd rather read a good article summing everything up.

Exactly, I find all this outrage online to be a pointless exercise. A better usage of time is to write a cross-platform Objective-C based game engine. http://www.alwaysontechnologies.com/blog/2010/04/09/section-...

I blogged about this here: http://www.alwaysontechnologies.com/blog/2010/04/09/section-... I think Apple did native iphone developers a favor. Just think about the army of Flash developers jumping into the app store.

If your customer acquisition depends on one source and they control the relationship you have with your customer, you might be screwed. :)

Platform owners are the new land users and developers are share croppers. If you develop for a platform, like Apple or Facebook or Twitter, you are basing your business on the whim of the platform owner. Every change in development license

The story of getting Next ported to Intel, and it made the difference in Apple buying Next instead of BeOS, was great. The behind the scene handling of Steve Jobs is classic "managing up."

I wonder if it is due to involvement from Apple? Apple products are known for paying attention to what seems like trivial detail but is actually important to the end user experience.

It can be anything from H1B to illegal immigrant. As long as he is here and is putting into the system more than he is taking out then why care about how he got here?

.9 ^ 22 is 0.098 therefore the chance of you trying 22 times and failing each time is around 10%. therefore the chance of you succeeding in 22 tries is 90%.

I liked the idea that if an immigrant create a company that gainfully employes 5-10 people, they get a green card. That would get more entrepreneurial immigrants come and stay in the US.

Failing may make you slightly better equipped the next time. The most important thing is to keep trying. If you've got a 10% chance of making it each time, just keep trying 22 times and you'll success 90% of the time.

Yes, AWStats, Webalize and the like will work, but GA handles time series data better and can drill down on specific urls. I'd also like to be able to modify the code and customize some analysis. That's why I want something like a web app.

Exactly why I didn't want to start a game studio. Once I understood the economics of selling games, I figured it was better to make a platform or tools for game making than starting an actual studio.

I think it is great that there are funds pursuing different strategies. What's even better is that they are fairly transparent about their data so we can use the data to find better strategies.

What is even worse is that the bubble also drains the talent pool to chase social media startups. Just take a look at recent batches of YC or Techstars.

The mark of a successful person is how they deal with rejection, not that they've never been rejected. As long as you keep trying and learn from your failures, chances are you will succeed in the long run.

I definitely appreciate articles on the actual nuts and bolts of setting up and structuring your company. Advice about "fail quick" and "benefit vs features" are great, but there are so many of them out there.

This is totally a marketing move. There is no doubt it will be approved. My company's approved iPhone app is not only a Firefox browser but also has Flash and Java support.
