Agreed. It is also amazing to think about what would happen if a city were to try to do something like this today. I think it could never happen and it would be all over the national media.

I'm not sure if there is another way. It's a worthy goal, and I'm not opposed to the government being involved. The part that seems the most questionable to me was the steering of Black families to not live next to each other

Does this try to prevent immigrant neighborhoods from forming as well? In the US at least my perception is that immigrant neighborhoods that mainly have first and second generation residents are viewed much more favorably even though they a

Oak Park is a suburb next to Chicago that managed to integrate fairly well, but when reading how it happened I was struck at how draconian it was handled. They purposefully wanted an integrated city and tried to sotftly limit or "steer

Agreed but May is the one who brought up the Hitler comparison. I think that encryption is minimally effective in cases of actual totalitarian states like Nazi Germany, the Soviet Union, or North Korea. They have too much control, secret po

Agreed. I want to be clear that I do think that encryption has an important role in organization and social change. I'm just struck by claims from some of the self-identified cypher-punks that encryption could mean taxation would be im

A good read but I'm struck by how politically naive so many of the crypto crowd seems to be. The idea of escaping the government by going into cyberspace is nonsenical on it's head. You are a body. You buy things for your body. Yo

A good article on pursing excellence in a game, or any arbitrary activity really. I find the idea of becoming really good at a game interesting, but I bounce around too much to ever really give it a shot I think. There are so many boardgame

Unfortunately as a lay-person I think that modern physics has grown to complicated that I have no basis for really judging who is right or wrong in an argument like this. Wolf's article seems more persuasive, but that doesn't mean

The Ocean is a very different place, we can't see into it as well, corpses and bones disappear, there is no physical evidence to be left etc. The Tasmanian tiger is on land, it dwells on the ground, and is an apex predator. This is exa

Right, and they found proof of the moose there from an antler, hair, and physical signs like antler marks. None of this has been found for the Tasmanian Tiger.

But no one has found a corpse, or bones, or gotten a clear picture etc. at this point despite many many people searching and a large cash bounty for proof. I don't think it's that good at hiding.

I mean, it's physically possible that that is the case. But it has been 80 years without finding a living one or a recent corpse makes it pretty much a sure thing.

Well, about 40 years after which isn't that soon. Given that DeFoe was 5 when the plague struck it is probably mostly based on the stories his Uncle told him.

The part you are ignoring is that there are many potential "Digglers" out there. If Diggler hadn't done well, you wouldn't have heard about it. Buy maybe you would have heard about some other guy who predicted the races

This isn't true though, the problem is there are generally more then 2 possible explanations. For instance let's imagine both of us are using an experimental telescope to observe if some event occurs. We are then looking at four p
