Just interested: how is the moviemagnet RSS feature easier to user than movies.io's ?

Well, adding 'real torrent urls' to movies.io is trivial, if we don't do it there's a good reason. Even TPB moved away from torrent links and to magnet links. It's one added layer of indirection that makes the whole system harder to break.

"Frustrating" is an understatement. Also, I still think having a separate website for 'legit outlets' is a waste of time and effort. I'd rather have you help us integrate it with movies.io - but you know that already :)

movies.io founder here, I definitely said that in that podcast, but changed my mind since. Going legit is too much trouble. The world of licensing is way too complex and antiquated - and we would've been forced to adopt DRM, which is a step

@mikado & others: I'm curious how cinemur got started, especially investing-wise. I see it has a 963 808 € capital, and yet the websites seems to have appeared out of nowhere. I thought Allociné was in pretty good standing with cinemas,

put.io has been around since '09, and they're smart guys. I wouldn't worry about them: http://www.crunchbase.com/company/put-io I don't really feel bad for Boxopus though, thinking Dropbox would put up with their stunt was really silly.

Why would you need to run a dev environment on Windows? Keep running your dev environment on Linux and SSH to it using Putty/Chrome secure Shell. Works like a charm :)

Hey pan.do/ra team! Just stumbled upon your work, and I'm quite simply amazed. It even has a clean API, which I can't wait to play with. I'm one of the guys behind movies.io - instead of becoming an ad-supported pirate site, we're trying to

What? What do speech recognition and fingerprinting have in common? I don't see how this research applies for DRM... Censorship, maybe. And even then, you can't filter conversations in real-time, only maybe 'flag' people with forbidden word

I'd love to meet that community :) Communities are generally pretty bad at product design though. Having a BDFL that has ears open but a straight cannon. We're trying to do that here.

Sounds like a good idea, we'll try to find some time to do that. In the meantime, we've added a few restrictions as to which movies can be featured: they must have an artwork at TMDb, and a rating of over 5/10.

What you suggest raises several important issues: first, we'd expect of these companies to go the extra mile of taking our money and redistributing to the rightful owners (which costs, it's a great deal of work to find out who owns what, be

Reinventing the wheel is part of the fun. Recommendation algorithms are not that hard once you know the math behind. But, sure, it goes further than being a Rails dev. We'll compare with Tastekid for quality :)

I think you underestimate the cost there is to switch. Suddenly you have to 1) install new software (unless an uTorrent update supports the new protocol), 2) lose all the content TPB had so far. I could be wrong, but that seems like a big s

(Full disclosure: movies.io admin here) Right now, it's hard to tell. I like that their current protocol is published as an IETF draft [1], but it doesn't include anything about their 'proxy layer' which is touted in the TF article. From th

The crosses are a nice idea, although we'll be hard at work at improving our algorithm first (one guy in the team is fulltime on that) and see how it goes. We'll try to get as much as we can right by default until we ask for help from users

Then again, I'm not exactly finished yet. But I understand your point of view. Reading my other comments here would give a more complete overview of how I feel but I don't think many people have the patience to do that.

We are seriously looking into that. I don't believe it would be wise for movies.io itself to engage into business (and profiting from content we don't own would definitely be unethical, from my point of view), but what we could do is work w

See, that's the kind of info we'd like on movies.io. There's so much more about movies than you can learn about from TMDb, some people do research, are passionate about a particular subject, especially niche movies that aren't available any

To quote one of my favorite personas on the internet: "You's trolling". I buy a lot of indie content, I hope that it helps them make a living. I'm currently contacting people to try and start a legal offer for indie content: apparently nobo
