Oops, autocorrect strikes again. The blanket is lithium hydride, not hydroxide. Some people talk about adding beryllium.

(Lithium hydride. The resulting caustic vapor is lithium hydroxide.)

Oops, lithium hydride . (Autocorrect strikes again!) Lithium hydroxide is what you get, as thousands of tons of caustic vapor, when it catches fire. What that does when you breathe it does not bear contemplation.

True enough. But by the time that could be fielded, our energy problems will already have been solved, or civilization will have collapsed.

Every scenario for fusion power requires extremely expensive processes to extract heat, and then using it to drive steam turbines. But operating steam turbines, all by itself, costs more than renewables. These extremely expensive processe

Everybody has known all along that renewables generation is intermittent. Mentioning it adds no light. And renewables happily coexist with other uses of the same land, so none is used up.

Sustained p-11B fusion might not be possible: the gamma photons carry away too much energy, and nothing can reflect them back. But if it could be made to work, it would be a better prospect than D-T.

The Line was a necessary component of a defense. It just needed more, that was not done. Without Czech armor, the invasion might have failed. Predicting the Germans would have the full resources of Czechoslovakia would require more prescien

Anything that depends on converting heat will be more expensive than renewables + storage. So, nukes, howsoever clever, have no place. Please do not pretend not to have heard of storage. It fools no one, but makes you look foolish.

The lithium + neutrons would breed the tritium you need for fuel to burn tomorrow. Extracting parts-per-billion of tritium distributed throughout thousands of tons of hot, brittle, radioactive, super-flammable LiH would be no picnic. Meltin

How will you extract the tritium at PPB concentration from thousands of tons of flame-hot radioactive lithium hydroxide? Daily? Intractable means that anything you try is worse than not starting.

Fusion reactors would have to be enormously bigger than fission plants. And cost correspondingly more both to build and to operate.

Exactly 0%. Achieving stable fusion does not make practical power from it possible. It would necessarily cost >10x fission, and fission is not competitive. We can be absolutely ,confident that by 2100, there will have been zero kWh of co
