It's wrong because your unit tests, just like your application, should not be aware of the presence of an IoC container except at the absolute composition root. Your unit test libraries should have their own composition roots of their

They are beginner friendly, sure. But that's almost a bad thing. As this poor guy found out the hard way. Building what was presumably quite a large system inevitably turned into a sprawling mess that was hard to maintain and develop a

I don't remember ever being so utterly inexperienced so as to firstly adopt a platform like Ruby on Rails, and then follow it up by making an even worse mistake in adopting Node.js. These platforms seem hip and cool but they actually n

No the single greatest benefit that a IOC container provides is object lifetime and scoping management. The next greatest benefit is the ability to decompose your code base into a single responsibility adhering components with good decoupli

"IOC: my_blah = container.resolve(Blah)" That's not IOC. That's service location. Which is only used at the "composition root" (look it up) in IOC. "In fact, pinject doesn't even mention tests in

I totally relate to this story. I was in an identical position just over a year ago. I spent 6 years co-founding a startup (though because of my age I was never recognised as a founder). I put so many hours into the software, evenings and

.NET has had this since 2006. LINQ to SQL and Entity Framework both support LINQ expressions. The problem is that more and more .NET devs are shunning it when working their relational database. There is an adage that if you're working with

If my comment can teach you one thing it's that you need to learn IoC/DI, lifetime management and stop using the antipatten that is the singleton. It's a pattern that only makes sense on a hack day and nothing more. HN has a low brow audien

ASM.js has nothing to do with performance. It's about abstracting away the utter pile of shit that is JavaScript so that we can start using the languages of real men on the web. There have been plenty of works done in this area already. S

Actually SSDs are the best place for a swap file. 4K random reads and writes. If a few random 4K writes is enough to make you worry about your SSD failing then you bought the wrong SSD (i.e. a non Intel or Samsung one).

You'd have been just a cog in the machine at Facebook anyway. If you listen to some of their seasoned engineers speak they seem to take great satisfaction from delivering some inane and tiny little web app feature, seeing it through a year

This article is just so biased and full of odd opinions. "If your Java code has Date date = new Date(); buried in its guts, how do you set it to a known value you can then compare against in your tests? Well, you don't. So what you do inste

They don't state whether the comparison between DX and OGL was running identical quality rendering or not. Given that OGL doesn't support many niceties that DX does; one can assume not. Which would make the entire comparison completely poin
