A few years ago I road the section from Magog to Montréal, QC which is part of Quebec's "Route Verte". This stretch was completed separate from highways and only occasionally crossed roads. What I noticed most was that it w

At least the aluminium body of the Model S and X won't rust the way most cars do in places that use road salt in the winter. Can't say the same for the Model 3.

Hmm... so 10^6L would be 0.1 hectare meters. Acre feet may be easy to visualize, but it's hard to convert.

Could "normal" wheeled train could go this fast reliably in a vacuum chamber? I suspect heat in the wheels and bearings would cause problems, especially without air cooling, but it would take much less energy to drive the train.

Yes. The Hyperloop concept Musk published in 2013 [1] was based on a partial vacuum with air cushions like a plane flying at 40,000 feet rather than a satellite zooming through space. [1] http://www.spacex.com/sites/sp

Remember that the reason a supercharger takes an hour to charge is due to the limits of battery chemistry. If you quadruple the size of a battery, it will still take only an hour to charge. Presumably Tesla has a super-duper charger in mi

They used to be remarkably good. Shortly after PG wrote his A Plan for Spam essay, I set up a customized system that used my own spam e-mails as training data. I can't remember the tool I used, but it involved a script on top of mail

I've been using my own kimsufi server for years, and live in Montréal so the latency to their Canadian location is superb. The low end servers are often sold out, but become available every couple months. I went for one with a spinni

In a perfect world, no one would ever get injured and this would take no time whatsoever. By personality investing his time after each injury Musk is encouraging everyone to avoid injuries, and showing this is really important. Theoretical

Women have a much higher level of attempted suicide, possibly 3x as often as men. [1] I once heard a theory that women don't die from suicide as often because they tend to use less violent means of suicide. For example, if you swallo

I was pleasantly surprised when the government of BC actually did remove a toll for the Coquihalla Highway after 22 years. Apparently it cost $848 million to build, and it took that long to collect $845 million in tolls.

This must be what it would be like to be a Bond girl in real life. Not very glamorous. As a dude, I've never really thought of what it's like to date someone who kills people for a living because the gender roles are usually rev

I suspect living in a war zone does this to people, which is how he explained it. Somehow he was able to see his girlfriend as a soldier instead of a murderer when the two were conflated.

The increase in GDP should make it profitable for government to fund all journals. The cost is relatively small as compared to the benefit to all citizens, allowing them to understand new technologies, business and social structures. Like

I have more sympathy for Jacqui, the single mom. She wasn't planning to divorce her husband and a $1200 basement seems reasonably thrifty for three people. Perhaps the new vehicles were extravagant, but she purchased that before her

This is only true if the repair is cosmetic. The nice thing about 10-20 year old cars is that anything that doesn't wear out is cheap and easy to find from a wrecker. I recently hit a deer and bought a hood, headlight & grill for

You could get a used Model S for a little more than a new Model 3. The autopilot won't be as good, but it will have better performance and free supercharging. Plus it's already available.
