It was probably a live stream. It starts early so that people can join in, then the content begins at the scheduled time. What you're watching is the recording of the full stream.

That's why we need a land value tax as Henry George proposed. People should not be able to make money by squatting on land and waiting for its value to appreciate - whether as a owner-occupier or as a landlord.

To avoid the cost of sitting down for 3~4 hours to rewatch the full video while critiquing it and writing notes, I opted to skim the entire narration transcript and pick out some points. This is not a complete critique, but I'm bounded

I appreciate your work and all, but this URL change disoriented me. I upvoted the submission when it was pointing to the root page of the website. Coming back to the thread half a day later now, I suddenly found that I upvoted the page &quo

BTU/h and kW are measures of power, or the rate at which energy is delivered. BTU and kJ are units of energy.

Yeah, this is a stupid system. The free market doesn't work properly when people can't know the price before deciding to buy or refuse the service. Transparency is not an optional perk.

The amount of plastic in LEGO is a drop in the bucket compared to: Plastic packaging for food and goods, bottled drinks, car parts (panels etc; remember that a car is completely trash after ~20 years), plastic in shared goods such as school

That's true. But there will still be some kind of rationing going on. If there are a thousand seats but a million fans, then 99.9% of them will be disappointed. Sure, you can lower the price, but then the winners will be either first-c

And how will standby tickets be rationed? By auction? By first-come-first-serve? You still have the same fundamental problem of scarcity.

Who gets those (1 - 1/x) tickets? Will there be a massive queue? In that case, people are paying with time instead of with money. Time is not free, and opportunity costs are real.

Okay, so scalping is illegal in a hurricane. Is it also illegal for outsiders to choose not to provide goods to the sticken area because the sale price doesn't justify the cost? See https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6jKl-

0.5 to 1.0 is just one F-stop in photography. If you make your sensor 2× better, that's not going to overcome a 100× reduction in front glass area when moving from a DSLR to a phone.

Wrong. Silicon image sensors are benchmarked by their "quantum efficiency" - the number of electrons generated by a photon. That number is something like 0.5, which isn't far from 1.0. There is very finite room for improvemen

The problem with property tax instead of land value tax is that a parking lot operator pays a lot less tax than the 30-storey apartment building next door. This is despite the fact that both plots of land have the same neighborhood amenitie

So tell international fans to f*ck off, right? I know many friends who fly to Japan to attend concerts because they genuinely like those artists. Way to stifle free trade and trample on people's preferences.

When you're rich, you can do that. Being rich, by definition, means having more options available to you. That's really what money is - a transferable token to persuade other people to do stuff on your behalf.

Scarcity - exactly. Say that an artist is holding a concert and 20 thousand seats are available. But she has 50 million fans all over the world. How do you allocate these 20 thousand seats - who will get them? You can either satisfy the hig

If you go by that standard, barbecuing over a fire is pretty unnatural too. Burning chemicals, depositing random hydrocarbon soot onto your food, having poor control over the cooking temperature... And we know it's unhealthy.
