I'm comparing the whole experience, so hardware + software. The hardware of the MacBook may be a bit ahead of my old laptop, but that doesn't have a major effect on my user experience.

I bought a 13" MacBook Retina Pro last December as my first Apple laptop after several years of Arch Linux. My expectation was that it would "simply work", whereas Arch often required manual configuration. My experience hasn&

But business/domain knowledge is at least as useful for the software engineers as it is for the manager, so I don't quite see how that explains the pay gap.

There's a few problems with this: * It only works in Linux, not Windows or Mac OS X. * You need additional work to have it work in more distributions * Linux package file formats are not distribution neutral, there's no "pack

This is what I find most surprising about C++. Apparently including a single library as a dependency takes large amounts of effort. The end result seems to be that developers avoid using dependencies and resort to rewriting large amounts of

I prefer a more modular approach to UI components. After using Bootstrap for a while I find myself often choosing a standalone component over the one provided by Bootstrap, since I can choose the component that best fits to the rquirements.

How does it protect from man-in-the-middle attacks? The man in the middle can simply replace the hash. If there's an additional communication channel to provide the hash you could simply provide the whole command with it.

I find it odd that it's too expensive. It's cheaper than the price of water in e.g. Finland and many European countries, yet I've never heard anyone complain about the price water. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki

The price in Finland for cold water is about $4.50 (4.18€) per cubic meter, even though water is supposed to be abundant here. And the average water consumption is 165 liters, which is about 44 gallons. Source: http://www.vercon.
