No, you do not 'loop around' the universe. It is flat, not a hyper-sphere. The 4th dimension of the universe is time, and not spatial.

Every one of these analogies are flawed in some way because they are just that, analogies, and the authors of them acknowledge that. You are meant to look at only the aspects of the situation that are analogous, and ignore the parts where t

I'm curious, can humans have a long-term effect on a stream? On a river? On a watershed? On an ocean? On the planet? Where is the line, and why is that line there? Which scientists would lose funding if they didn't produce data to support t

Whoops, yes. The original wording of my comment was the definition of TL;DR. The point I was trying to make is that in this case, the first paragraph of TFA was its own TL;DR, so GGP was particularly redundant.

It could be that your TL;DR has exactly the same content as [the first paragraph of] TFA, so it adds nothing to the conversation, the way a good summary of a complex topic would. Edit: forgot some words

This software analogy is more flawed than most. Both of the other things have timed contests exactly like a hackathon. Cooking has Iron Chef and all of those variants, and film has their own 24-hour (or X-hour) contests where teams make a f

The author of the article fails to mention it. The author of the paper does, but fails to consider that maybe the decrease in reported cases in 1989 is just as spurious as the increases in the late 90s. The decrease in reported child sex

And the second part reiterates the sexist idea that women can't be happy unless they're married. That's hardly a straw man. If we want more women creating startups, it's exactly the kind of sexism that should be eliminated.
