Anyone interested in a fully imagined setting where a "mirrorworld" is firmly in place should check out Verner Vinge's book Rainbows End .

"Every" is a bit rich, considering we're likely 100s of years from testing it directly.

> Reusing the containers will save more material and energy than fashioning new ones each time—even with all the additional shipping. I 100% do not believe this.

Yeah saw this tweet this morning and felt kind of ashamed for falling for the clickbait yesterday: https://twitter.com/arkmashton/status/1090971061569622016

> You can even write C or 6502 assembler code for Woz's creation, the Apple ][+. Thrill to the unusual frame buffer layout and one-bit speaker output! These folks get it.

Maybe a step in the right direction but I would much rather have the content from these entities still be visible, but flagged, so I could warn others. Probably not possible without a custom twitter client, though.

Agree. These days not owning a car can be either a sign of being extremely poor, or somewhat privileged.

There is already TONS of negative cultural bias towards being overweight/obese. The fact that there are still so many overweight/obese people shows that we really still don't understand the problem or how to treat it.

If you have any experience coding GUIs, or thinking geometrically, then you'll find very little friction in picking up OpenSCAD, which is completely free/open source. It may not have the features of the pricier ones, but I find it

Great find. And somewhat surprising because hadrons mostly don't survive to sea level. Too much integrated cross-section with the atmosphere.

A pedantic point (good thing I'm on HN), but I wonder if they didn't actually mean muons and not gamma rays?

"Super-Earths" are among the most numerous planet type in the galaxy. The term just means they mass somewhere between 1 and 10 Earths, and says literally nothing else about the planet. Why is this interesting news?

Shout out to Foone in general. A+ twitter follow if you're into old and weird tech. They're quite talented at converting "wtf is this" into an enjoyable narrative.

I assume this is an allusion to the fact that the standard Commodore 64 disk drive had an identical CPU, lol. A legitimate computer all to itself. You could even expand the default 2KB of RAM up to 48KB. [1] [1] https://en.wikipe

Eh I'm guessing it's just not interesting to most people. Your phone/laptop is also a very precise timepiece but it's a feature you get "for free" in a modern OS, so not usually worth mentioning.
