Thanks for all this. I need to spend some time parsing it. One thing that CohortMe is doing that keeps the thing from being unwieldy is that I only go back 12 periods. So only 12 weeks, or 12 days or 12 months. Not a perfect solution, but i

Yep, and it's a great tool. But I was in a situation where I already have an app with data that hasn't been using Mixpanel. In fact I've got a bunch of apps like that. And I was irritated that there wasn't an easy way to just use that data

This is tremendous feedback. I'm insanely appreciative of that. Great insight I'll chew on. Want to email me for an invite? nate.kontny gmail.

Thank you very much! At the moment I'd like to keep it at just a single flat fee: $10 for a review. (It's only $5 right now for people beta testing) No matter what the size. So if you have a short doc you'll get lots of edits, and a long do

Oh man, really? Sorry about that. It's just been very exciting to work on this. And that Bijan quote came from the very first user test I did on this with a complete stranger. I've had a lot of stumbles on new projects recently, and so that

Thanks! Well so the inspiration for this came from just trying to get my wife to proof read my blog posts. Even a 600 word post ends up becoming a pain. I'd end up sending her a google doc, or email or whatever. She would end up copying and

Love this guy. He's even got a song about Malcolm Gladwell and the 10,000 hours stuff (that I wrote about a bit ago.)

Ah yeah, that's a great example. In fact, if I remember right, Gmail has always been a lot more friendly with getting mail out of gmail than services like hotmail and yahoo mail have (doesn't Yahoo still delete inactive account email?). I t

Zappos is a great example of doing this kind of thing. From anecdotes, it sounds like if you call Zappos to order something that they don't have in stock, they'll help you find a competitor that has it. There's some insurance companies that

Very true. And vice versa is actually a pretty neat idea. Youngme Moon who I mention in the article has a book called Different which I highly recommend. She's got a bit in there about differentiating yourself by making it insanely easy for

Thanks for the comments guys. Actually, that's a big point of what I'm writing here. These ideas just keep getting copied and morphed into something else. It's ok to copy. It's ok to try and make it your own without being petrified someone

Thanks Steve, I'll do that. All it does is add an extra option (or two) to the views render method. By default nothing changes. Stuff only gets invoked if someone wants to do: render partial: thing, collection: @things, cache: true

I'd love for it to be part of standard rails, but don't they usually like to see features like this play themselves out as gems before trying to incorporate them (e.g. turbolinks, cache-digests, etc.). Of course if anyone knows of a better

No, but if I'm not mistaken they typically like to see new features shake themselves out as gems. Like turbolinks or cache_digests. Right?

Oh, thanks for sharing that. This presentation is great and is food for a couple more ideas I think I might be able to pull off for Rails using multi fetching.

Thanks for answering that. Yep, there's a bit here: https://github.com/n8/multi_fetch_fragments/blob/master/lib/... @collection.each do |item| key = @options[:cache].is_a?(Proc) ? @options[:cache].call(item) : item ex

I can totally play skeptic :) So like I mentioned in the description it really all depends. If your cache store is already really close to your application like on the same server, you aren't likely to see much gain since fetching from Memc

Great summary. One problem that tripped me up with http caching in rails was invalidating client http caches when a template changes and you're doing conditional etags based on an object's updated at timestamp. So basically when you do fres
