I truly understand the points you give and I like the fact that rails has a proper process for all of this. Fact is though that 90% of projects that I didn't start myself involve FTPing stuff to a server were all the developers muck around

PHP. I used rails exclusively for webdev the last 6-7 years and I just now worked on a PHP project. Deployment of PHP is the same as deployment of static HTML. How is that not simpler than what we got in rails. For rails you need to underst

I recently switched password manager to 1password. It syncs with dropbox on the iphone as well. Indeed feels like magic. My budgeting app syncs over wifi and feels bad somehow. It is nice to get rid of this unnecessary obligation to sync st

The problem is that DUI is actually dangerous and the threat of being punished when you do kill someone does not deter people enough. Plus they obviously have low regard for their own life already. You need to threaten them with something t

In Austria you can only pay by card in chains or touristy places. Even there it is socially unacceptable for amounts less than 10 Euros. I always cringe when I am in the States or somewhere like Argentina where people pay for a coffee with

I second that. Gems are great and even though this whole rdoc, ri stuff is slow to build it is certainly not the dealbreaker in rubyland. When someone spends too much time with something like rubygems they tend to overestimate the importanc

Very new worldy to find it strange that a search for a city returns the original one and not the copy. They should have named it New Camebridge.

As an Austrian I can tell you exactly what will happen as we never built nuclear power in the first place. The new NPP will be built in Poland or the Ukraine and you will be importing the power. Best case with German financing and thus Germ

Thanks I didn't catch that myself. Sounds awfully much like real estate where suddenly everyone was feeling rich because some idiot bought a house for too much money. (in this case aggravated by the fact that the idiot put zero money down.)

Very true. I don't think articles like this fall under pg's definition of deeply interesting. They always draw crowds though. When I see one I have to summon all my strength not to read it.
