Yep, it is a pretty impressive network. I had a lot of fun, particularly given the range of day to day work activities. One day I am coding web apps, the next talking with fiber contractors, the next cleaning up after a big storm. I only wo

Upvoted twice for UBNT. Downvoted once for math: 50mbps x 200 users = 10,000mbps Arithimetic aside, Ubiquiti is quickly changing the Wisp world. At Freenet, we switched from Canopy and upgraded our backhauls to Ubiquiti Airmax and saved mon

I live just down the road in Lawrence. We have AT&T, Knology, and a small, scrappy (disclaimer: that used to work for) community wireless startup in Lawrence Freenet. Freenet has been pushing hard to work with the City of Lawrence on a

I worked in the same building as Dave in 2009 and 2010. Dr. Dave is the quintessential small business. He provides local, intelligent, and honest PC repair and his clients absolutely rave about his service.

I think the key would be to find a company to partner with (say Krogers?) that would, with the customer's approval share the data from their loyalty programs that, in theory, store it. This way the customer only needs to take one action, op

This is an interesting approach. Right now, credit cards don't get itemized receipts (afaik), just totals to charge to the customer's account. For a service like this to be really useful to me, I would want itemized receipts.

I had teachers who were not great. But I never had one out and out bad teacher. Never saw a teacher sleeping (in class) or wetting themselves (wow). And no teacher I had ever stood for any student being assaulted. Maybe there are benefits t

BATMAN, OSLR, and Open-Mesh are pretty slick. But, and a big but, we struggled running a network of ~500 of them in one medium-size Midwest city. It's not targeted at laptops, but at embedded boards somewhat like you would find in a commod
