He was very active on Reddit while he was first starting out with comics (he did an IAMA and commented on the site a lot, talked about SEOmoz, too), Reddit revolted on him for possibly using SEO techniques and being rude (insulting critics

If evidence in Wikileaks favor was leaked to Wikileaks the conflict of interest would call into question the validity of the evidence. It would be better if it were provided to a 3rd party with no stake in the outcome.

First, our professors think that getting a job at a big, stable company is a good thing. Is it? Yes. Most people aren't looking to start a company right after graduating college. Startups are rare. Successful ones are practically endanger

Pottering's code appears to just be a proof of concept. It really doesn't make sense to have this behavior in a bash initialization file. Not to mention you'd have to launch your X session from that bash instance (and you'd have to be using

I came to a similar conclusion, but I think the flip always looks and feels a little off. I prefer the page slide like the NYTimes website optimized for Chrome. Not a continuous slide, but a slide from one page to the next.

Anyone else try to log into John's HN account just to make sure he didn't make a very bad mistake (by posting the actual sheet he uses)?

I'm pretty disappointed with Google's search these days. 99% of the time I just want plain old text search results. No pictures, videos, maps, javascript previews, etc. Just the text.

Small, niche communities are generally easier to manage and yield more valuable content. I think this is why reddit decided to go with subreddits over tags.

Pure vector graphics when looking at standard map views, which will greatly reduce bandwidth. That doesn't come free, though. Don't vector graphics calculations require more CPU/GPU power and likewise consume more battery?

Even more surprising is that everyone of these [Wikileaks supporters] I know are ardent freaks about keeping their own lives private. Privacy of the individual is not the same as privacy of a government[1], we must take into consideration

I got into the habit of doing "Yoda Conditions" in C to prevent accidental assignment from typos. To be honest, though, I can't remember the last time I typed = instead of ==.

I believe there are backup tools for the Kindle that strip out the DRM and save the books to your PC. But essentially this is the same risk as your house burning down and taking your books with it. I wouldn't lose sleep over it.

Yes, an NFC Reader application only supports reading. The chip on the Nexus S supports reading and writing[1] so, assuming the OS allows it, you can write an application to swap contacts or whatever. 1: http://techcrunch.com/2010/12/06/goo

Zuckerberg and Schmidt are talking about the privacy of individuals. This is about the privacy of governments and large businesses. The power dynamics are vastly different. See: http://www.schneier.com/blog/archives/2008/03/privacy_and_po.
