I second the recommendation. I'd say a better summary has to mention that there 2 types of random "things": some are predictably random (Mediocristan), and some are aren't, they're prone to Black Swans (Extremistan). It's the latter type of

That's an understatement. Being poor in the US (by the official US definition) is better than being poor almost anywhere else. This paper goes so far as to argue that, in many ways, the average poor American lives at the same level or bette

Dude, I'm sorry about your debt, but I'm sure you can find a better paying job eventually. > Here in Brazil the best wage you can get as programmer, is still around 36k (yes, I am not kidding). Assuming you mean 36k USD, that's about R$

IMO that's exactly how it should work. Comment is downvoted, gets grayed out, and then hopefully people don't reply to it. The graying out is a way of expressing "don't feed this troll". If people start replying and get into a prolonged dis

You could join or donate to a NGO that helps North Korean defectors. Some help North Koreans who are living in South Korea, Japan, or elsewhere. Some actively help people escape to those countries after they have crossed the Chinese border.

Where did you hear the opposite? An increase in the number of low-skilled immigrants might negatively affect GDP per capita, but it's hard to see how it would negatively affect total GDP.
