The context is about strengthening emissions standards, not banishing all fossil fuel use, so I’m not sure where you’re getting any “absolutes” from.

This exact thing happened with me and my friends in high school, except the random kid who eagerly tried the wildcard net send command chose to write “hey you b**es”, got suspended a few days later, and the IT department never figured out h

Merry Christmas & good luck. I was scheduled to be on call but a lifesaver of a coworker covered for me. Turned out my flights were canceled and I’ll be missing the holiday with my family after all. No active incidents, thankfully.

At this point I’m pretty sure we’ll have AGI and commercial fusion power before we get Mixins in CSS. Edit: I’m very happy with the last decade of progress in CSS at the feature level, but at the language level I get the sense that there’s

Considering the possibility that fossil fuels can be exported to resource/land-poor states for a higher premium may explain the “Number 1” status that Texas has here. The more fuel you can free up for export, the richer the state becom

It was perfect! Full of low-key wisdom and fun observations. Doesn’t feel like “content marketing” in the slightest. I wish the Hapland series was coming to Mac, but I respect your decision to snub Apple.

Ah, Flash. Simulating a bouncing ball using keyframe-driven ActionScript that I only sort of understood was my “hello world” moment. Love to see it being used like this. If only I could find those old .fla files…

Seeing a lot of “fiddly” software being listed here. Stuff that lets you configure and tune a workflow endlessly. It’s ironic that this is the sort of thing most of us will think of, since it doesn’t really account for time saved so much as

Yeesh. This whole thing sounds like some gross commercialization of a problem blown out of proportion, that doesn’t really work, hurts honest customers, and only gets enforced due to some sunk cost fallacy going on in the minds of the venue

Can’t edit my post, but the term I was trying to remember was “conceptual integrity”, coined by Fred Brooks in a The Mythical Man-Month. Here’s a c2 wiki page on the subject: https://wiki.c2.com/?ConceptualIntegrity

Yeah that’s an important distinction! Iirc, the essay distinguishes between singular visionary vs decision-maker roles. A decision maker is there to break ties and contain bike shedding, and you pretty much always need one, whereas a singul

I’m blanking on the name of the essay, but there’s a compelling argument for the only viable alternative to a Benevolent Dictator being a very thoroughly and precisely defined shared terminology of the underlying product/software syste

Better yet, use a large flat pan and just enough water to cover the noodles. You don’t even need to wait for the water to boil. It’s faster this way and uses less water. Kenji Lopez-Alt of The Food Lab has a few videos covering the topic. I
