System of Records especially for boring industries is the way to go. What kind of wrapper SaaS are you seeing getting dropped?

Exactly, a lot more focus -- and most importantly specific domain knowledge -- allows the end-user to build exactly what they need, fast.

That's a fair point. I envision this as the difference between an electron interacting with the proton or an acid reacting with the base vs me touching my keyboard. Do you feel there's a difference there?

He's the best hard sci fi author by far. Permutation City is also a must read especially because of its thought experiments around consciousness and computation.

Indeed, it's been great learning about the various interpretations as this idea took hold over the years! What I wasn't able to properly highlight is how this belief has become a fundamental part of my day to day, moment to moment

This is one of my fundamental beliefs about the nature of consciousness. We are never able to interact with the physical world directly, we first perceive it and then interpret those perceptions. More often than not, our interpretation igno

Previously in the story it is mentioned that George as a child was curious about the etymology of the Olympics event and asked his father, only to be dismissed. The callback at the end symbolizes his renewed curiosity. He is no longer asham

I've never heard bandwidth being expressed in bytes. But if we're being pedantic then I'd like to throw my hat in and call it 62.5kB. Or even better, 62.5KiB (for kibibyte)

A "clone" usually doesn't mean that they'll copy the content, but the idea, like Ola is a clone of Uber. (Though they probably should've said a link aggregator instead of HN clone.)

Typographical fun fact: An em-dash is approximately the width of the letter "M", and an en-dash is the width of a lowercase n! The latter is barely used, but is the right way to indicate dates like 2023-25. The more you know!

It's a terrible side effect of AI that regular people using em dashes in honest writing are labelled as AI. I have a deep love for em and en dashes--you can see heavy usage in my writing that's 10 years older than chatgpt. My love
