To be fair to sama he did say that "it still seems more impressive on first use than it does after you spend more time with it"[1] but I suspect that was a kind of 4d chess move to hope to be quoted in situations like this when he

You're correct but I don't see why that matters. From your perspective as a C coder you get webgl access without having to write JS, that's what's important. Everything is "mixed together" into asm in the end a

Do you have any good resources or links on using ggml with wasm?

WASM can access the GPU via middle layers like SDL. I.e. you can write a C program that uses opengl and compile it and as long as you include the right flags etc into `emcc` you will barely need to touch or glue it together on the JS side a

Seems like a common pattern. State of the art models being well replaced by a information retrieval layer (top 10 results) fed into a much lighter model that does something with that plus the original input. Cool result!

The reason react was developed is mostly null at this point. Modern javascript is so fast and plesant it's hard to imagine many real reasons you can't stay entirely within vanilla.

Semi related: Does anyone know if there's been promising research in using LLMs for compilation? Seems like if you have an LLM that can have higher levels of abstraction understanding of a codebase it could (in theory) be able to optim

Finally someone who did this, I've always thought this was a low hanging fruit. I wonder if you could make interesting and quickly trained diffusion models with this trick.

I don't think they were foolishly optimisitic. Society was just literally higher trust back then and various factors have eroded that over the decades in a way they probably wouldn't have predicted.

Funny how the effect of the rate limit has barely affected bots and scrapers at all but severely damaged the userbase of the site.

If someone wants to release weights but attach a no commercial license to it I'm somewhat fine with that. I won't be able to sell it behind a shallow API but I'll be able to use the output of the model (that can't be p

There's an argument that some pieces of the disinformation has some truth to it and thus not being able to say it cause more harm then censoring it. (So which side actually is analogous to yelling fire, the censorship side or the non c

I agree with most of what you say. But uncommented code isn't necessarily a bad thing. You can often make it self documenting through long and descriptive variables names and function names.

I like to make new HN accounts every few months to avoid falling into this trap (i.e. feeling an obligation to sink more time into HN or reddit because I'm proud of the amount of points I have).
