An Introduction to General Systems Thinking by Gerald Weinberg is a good overview on Systems theory. It covers different approaches to developing a mental model of systems.

I guess I’ll try asking this again: How come Red doesn’t have a GC? If Red doesn’t have free, does it just leak memory?

Or apparently the even more common functional list operations: “map”, “for_each”, “filter”, “every”, etc.

It’s weird that the article author attributes Susan Fowler’s blog post as the reason for Travis Kalanick’s resignation when it was really more of an incidental symptom of the many underpinning factors that ultimately led to the board’s lett

For those fluent in Go first, this is good as a quick Go to Python reference too. Though good as an initial quickstart, this invites programming in Go using a Python-style and vice versa. Glad that there’s at least a section on goroutines a

Hm I get about 4 up and downs per second before the scroll position is 180deg out of phase in Safari on iPhone 7+. That translates to about 125 (1000/8) ms latency?

Smartphones suffer from input latency too, though I’m unsure of the underlying cause (curious how iOS handles window/view drawing). It only seems to be getting worse, though I haven’t done tests on this. While each new model undoubtedl

I really loved the pacing of Knights and Magic, but the fact that the MC was a programmer in a past life is only relevant for maybe 3 episodes.

I like to go to the first few commits of some repositories to see how the initial proof of concept was implemented. Docker was one that surprised me. Turns out that the core of it was mounting some folders with union fs and providing an API

I agree with this, domain knowledge is underrated. However, sometimes it does take a risk-taking outsider to put several big picture pieces together initially. This isn’t to say one should just stay as an outsider once started. I’m thinking

To me, as a software engineering student, the take home brief seems like a reasonable one? It’s the uncompensated three month onboarding and training that sticks out to me. I wonder if school credit could be negotiated for that.

I don’t think it’s a joke, but I haven’t seen ECMAScript much in practice, just es6 and es2015 in npm. Full “ECMAScript” seems more common for clarity in proposals.

One may want to notify many website owners at once that it’s a good time to apply a patch in response to a security vulnerability affecting a technology they are using. Ex: WordPress, node.js, MongoDB, etc.

This~ I've lost count of how many times I've pulled to refresh on a scrollable view in an app that doesn't refresh that way. Feels bad man.

Learning to think in parallel, and understand and design for procedures that don't run sequentially, would be good practice for concurrent runtimes and distributed systems too. Not only for HDLs.

Chrome as a browser doesn't follow internal name assignments. Running in a sandbox won't fix the issue that Chrome will redirect perceived TLDs to HTTPS.
