One really big selling point for Spotify is the quality of experience. For example, the median playback latency for starting a track is just 265 ms.

Since Spotify hasn't launched in the US yet, I would guess that the negotiations are not really going forward. Daniel Ek said in an interview that they hoped to launch in the US soon, and that was more than a year ago.

In some cases it is interesting, for example when being able to socially hack due to ones learned ability to deconstruct social situations (the learned deconstruction being a survival trait). At other times, it is not so fun. For example wh

If I get a paper with request for comments in a personal mail from an author, I would definitely ask permission before forwarding. Not doing so is just rude.

Wrong area for a Nobel prize, the prize areas are physics, chemistry, physiology/medicine, literature, and peace. There is also a prize in economics given at the same time.

This is more or less what I wanted to allude to with the social process of proof. The number of things that are actually rigorously formally proven is surprisingly small IMHO.

That is not really how I experience adventure games, but given the context of comparing a discussion with finding buttons to push, I thought it was apt :) As for merit vs. enjoyment, I believe that the best merit of discussions is the enjoy

I would guess such things have been studied. It is probably very hard to change an entrenched model though, so even though people might spend more money on phones and services in model A than in model B, that result might only be valid if a

One reason that legal punishment can still work in the absence of free will, is that absence of legal punishment might make more of the moist robots do societally damaging things. Essentially, it is not about a moral decision, it is about p

Lots of merit, because pushing that button will give an enjoyment feedback of being right. Compare with adventure games that more or less consists of finding the right buttons to push in some order :)

While subsidized phones exist in Sweden, the interest is not nearly so bad. In fact, after my 18 month plan is up, I will have paid the same amount for the phone in increased monthly payments as if I had bought it directly. The uptake for t

Even if you have no free will, that doesn't mean that your mind can't be changed by arguments.

Well, this will only happen if they actually get into parliament. Announcing the plans might get them more votes, making it self-fulfilling though. It is fun legal hacking in any case.

Most would not believe him straight away, since it is highly unlikely that P=NP. If the proof holds up to scrutiny though, it is not an issue of belief any more (apart form the social process of proof of course).

I'm from Sweden and my first name is Mikael, not that uncommon a name. A while ago I saw that a nordic airline had "helpfully" reverse transcribed my first name on the ticket to Mikäl, which I've never seen as a first name. Wonderful :) For

If the user has enabled social features, you can just enter "spotify:user:x" in the search-field. But now that you mention it, I realized that user x has to connect to Facebook to enable the social features. That is unfortunate. I was think

While the social features do use Facebook, I wouldn't say that it relies on them. If you know someone with username X, you can search for spotify:user:X to find their user-page. The facebook-integration "just" automates finding your friends
