Some people might have talked about hacked voting machines (who came up with that theory?). Others talk about stopped counts, regions not reporting until seeing the results of other regions, and then ballot harvesting to make up numbers.

Right. In terms of dollars. But what makes up the respective economies? Overpriced healthcare, insurance and banking services might not be as valuable as oil, minerals and manufacturing going forward. I just feel it's a huge conceptual

That might not necessarily be the case. Look at where they sit strategically. The amount of resources they supply to an increasingly resource hungry world. The amount of math and science talent. The possession of advanced nuclear weaponry.

You can't mine Monero currently with GPUs? I haven't mined in years and I know they changed away from the cryptonight algorithms but I used to mine on both CPU and GPU.

You link to CNN and globalnews though. Not really unbiased sources. And I think we have learned about "polls" over the past few years, at least I have, in the US elections. I have no doubt many Canadians are not happy about the pr

Ya but that's not "Russia Proper"... yet. It's Ukraine and Russian backed Ukraine separatist regions (who are currently evacuating civilians to Russia in expectation of more conflict).

Yep it's a great book and McCarthy is a fantastic author but it is a bit disturbing. “War was always here. Before man was, war waited for him. The ultimate trade awaiting its ultimate practitioner.”

Skepticism is good and valuable. Iron sharpens Iron. HN isn't toxic, and a bunch of smart nerds sniping each other results in smarter nerds. Smarter nerds is a net benefit to humanity. Arguably. There's probably other places for c

I managed people for a long time (not software developers but think some of this transfers). At times well over 100 people with sub managers in some outfits. I did pretty well at it from a results perspective watching others who came before

Dumb luck. And the fact it was led by a mentally ill guy in a buffalo costume and no one thought to bring weapons or make a plan to take over the government. It wasn't a coup. Nor a coup attempt. It was a protest against an election th

Off topic, but why do so many statements about Trump contain the word "Literally!"? He either funded Trump in which case one could just say so, or else he didn't. "Literally" appears to be some sort of emphasis or &

Yes, but then how would we get all the stories about going on to form a fortune 500 company or some other high achievement? Because many of those seem to start with "nothing but a suitcase and the clothes on their back".

Then accuse non mainstream sources of "misinformation" when they try to expose the crypto scams. Fact Check: "No, Bitcoin is not a Ponzi scheme and is actually good for the environment!"

JavaScript used to be easy to get into (and I suppose technically still is) but the old days of open a console and type in some code or put a src file at the top of the HTML page seem to be gone for most practical and production purposes. N

Kept Bagram air base until the evacuation was complete for starters. Not droning innocent civilians and then fibbing on the way out would have been nice as well. Maybe not left so much heavy equipment and arms?

50-60K a year with summers off and a generous pension is an acceptable salary in many areas of the country. Many people who teach would have trouble at other jobs from what I've observed. I don't think it's about the money.

Slackware taught me a lot about Linux. Eventually I got lazy and moved on (things were just easier to install on Mint/Ubuntu) but I owe Patrick big time. I think I'm going to give this a whirl for old times sake.
