> Seems very unethical, no? I don't think one can judge it ethically without considering the context. Are we talking about mass automated scraping? Or are we talking about me trying to get a good deal by scraping local used car deal

If I pay for it, yes. If my employer pays for it, no.

Generally, when people say they are working 8h/day, they don't literally mean it. Even "work" is basically impossible to define for a SWE.

Very common practice in music gear industry, unfortunately. I've recently bit the bullet and bought MyVolts Step Up for $20, it is literally a PD trigger worth maybe 50 cents plus a plug.

I think it's possible, but if you mean Variax, the trick was in hardware. I believe it had multiple pickups per each string.

That's right, but with AI help + some hallucination you can get nice looking release notes out of the worst mess of commits.

For simple cases, it is probably a total overkill to even consider it, but for something heavier, embedding the database gives you a chance to trivially migrate later to a separate database server.

My gut reaction was "well, you can give them a phone, just lock down tiktok and other crap" but then I was thinking "well, in the end that doesn't matter in practice, they can buy a used device from a friend for pocket m

Ah, beautiful times. I remember that me and my friend abused Orange's feature to send voicemail messages directly to the voicemail inbox, without calling the other person at all. Since it was billed by the second, if you spoke very fas

I recall some friends did that in colleage. Obviously with a bit of teenage humor in money transfer descriptions... which is not really funny, since there is no way to remove the transaction ever. Good times.

+1, guest network is risky. Even VPN/ts is risky, since you're actively hiding what you are doing. Mobile data only.

"network fileshare" is not local. By the same logic, I can mount S3 bucket over fuse and call it "local". Sure, it will work, but in the context it is just nonsense.

I can imagine it being useful for some obscure setup of local CI (like Jenkins) that expects a Git URL and for whatever reason cannot just copy files from one directory to another. Or maybe Argo/Flux tinkering to mimic real repo. But n

What's the purpose of this? I don't get it. Why push at all to "local remote", if you can just keep your changes on a local branch, and push it whenever "remote remote" becomes available again?

It's a classic case of power vs responsibility. Generally SREs get all the responsibility but little power. Even if developers are also suffering on-call shifts, the first strike always hits SREs.

You don't need account, that's for sure, but multiple times I've seen a big upsell popup that suggests that account is required, while the tiny gray button "skip to files" is on the very bottom. I hate such patterns
