How about WISP technology for rural areas as something in between Starlink and expensive fiber infra?

They don't have to go all the way though and fully compete with Dell EMC/HPE. I'm not sure what the original commenter was thinking but in my mind they could simply sell a Mac Studio variant with dual PSUs, better networking,

Hetzner also has the interesting choice of consumer-grade machines which probably work fine in cases where you are constrained by CPU power rather than memory capacity/bandwidth. You'll also lose a bit of redundancy and reliabilit

Would adding a single GPU help with prompt processing here? When I run a llama.cpp GPU build with no layers offloaded prompt processing is still way faster as all the matrix multiplies are done on the accelerator. The actual memory bound in

Most cheap amp ICs perform well when they're outputting less than a watt, with distortion barely audible. Try connecting the same amp board to your main HiFi system if you have one and do some listening tests against the original HiFi

Fixed, thanks. Somehow the title of the datasheet pdf is AD8255 despite the chip being an AD85050.

If you're going through all the effort to design a PCB have you thought about driving the I2S input digitally? I skimmed through the AD85050 datasheet and it has internal DSP functionality which would have been already tuned for the dr

From what I've seen the general consensus is that the 128GB of memory is standard across all models, and that the price would vary for different storage and networking configurations. Their marketing materials say that "Each Proje

In this case the piracy model might change into something like the software cracking scene where groups with specialized skills and equipment would be the ones doing the uploading. Regular people wouldn't be able to make copies with a

The reason I chose Vim over Emacs is simply because of the fact that it's available literally EVERYWHERE. I've honestly never seen a UNIX system which doesn't have Vi or Vim installed by default. Emacs is more hit and miss.

Intel used to have GVT-g hardware virtualization on their integrated GPUs from Broadwell up. I haven't tried it myself but know people who used and liked it then. All good things come to an end though, and Intel scrapped it for Rocket

Even with a PCIe FPGA card you're still going to be memory bound during inference. When running LLama.cpp on straight CPU memory bandwidth, not CPU power, is always the bottleneck. Now if the FPGA card had a large amount of GPU tier me

I still use Ivy Bridge and Haswell workstations (with Linux, SSD and discrete GPU) as my daily drivers and for the things I do they still feel fast. Honestly a new Celeron probably beats them performance wise. The modern AMD or Intel deskto

If local LLMs become mainstream then you want as much memory bandwidth as possible. For regular home and office use two channels of DDR4 is more than enough.

Do regular users use more than 250GB or so of local storage? Large media collections are likely stored on a NAS or external HDDs and the local disk is more for the OS, apps, and scratch space. Nowadays many files are on the cloud as well. D

It's worth noting that with some practice you can unscrew the hot metal tip holder with pilers, flip the tip out into a tray, drop the new cold tip in, and screw it all back using the pliers in 30 seconds or so.

On the flip side wouldn't that make replacement tips much more expensive? On my old Hakko station I've replaced the tips several times but the element and sensor seems to be going strong.
