This program has the potential to be major net gain for our society. We have the largest incarcerated population in the world. We have mental health and opioid crises. Our current models of policing are ineffective and inhumane. I hope that

True, but in the case of naked shorting there is now (for some period of time) another share being traded in addition to the shares issued by the company. In the case of regular shorting the float remains the same.

This results in a similar situation to GME where the short interest is > 100%. WSB wants to be Charlie. They want to hold the share that Bob is legally obligated to buy and can't purchase anywhere else. They can then demand whatever

My understanding is that this leads to short interest greater than 100% but not more shares traded than float as there is still just one share. In your example Alice doesn't own the share at this point, she owns an agreement that says

With normal shorting the number of shares being traded is no greater than the float. Only with naked shorting can there be more shares traded than float, as in the parent's example. Interestingly, in both cases the short interest can b

I'm not assuming anything, I'm just asserting that it's a rational strategy that has a possibility of succeeding. Can the short sellers stay solvent long enough to wait for the price to drop? Short squeezes can last for weeks

It doesn't need to go to infinity. GameStop just needs to get to parity with totality of the collective assets of every short seller. Then to make good on their debt, those entities will be fully liquidated. They took on unbounded risk

I'm having trouble finding specific numbers, do you have a source? As far as I can tell they started the year with ~12.5B AUM, and have lost ~30% on the year and received a 2.75B cash infusion from Citadel et al, which I assume was at

Likewise there are a lot of working class Christians who would be strong allies in a labor movement but if that movement is inextricably linked to a pro-choice party it is a non-starter for them.
