'package koans' is simpler and more idiomatic of Go.

The CERN talk referred to in the article is also available as an mp3 audio here: https://archive.org/details/AlexandreGrothendieck-UneVieDign... It's in French, but very touching to hear A. Grothendieck's voi

I don't think "many" jobs are flexible the way you describe them. At least from my experience.

Haven't heard anyone mention taking notes on a voice recorder. I have never done it, but wonder if this is efficient or not. As for pen vs keyboard, I'm definitely for the pen, specially when thinking. On a small page, I can star

The lines about making A.Weil upset made me laugh. It's interesting how A.G. apparently rubbed A.Weil and H.Cartan the wrong way, but then Dieudonne was totally at his side at IHES. Fascinating --if you're into Math folklore.

Give the two numbers (#divorce/#marriages) and (#divorced/married_individuals). Some stats may not be summarized in one number only.

Just putting this from the official FAQ, for the record. Robert Griesemer, Rob Pike and Ken Thompson started sketching the goals for a new language on the white board on September 21, 2007. Within a few days the goals had

Good point, and in that case, I would say this idiom is not so great really. For functions with the same signature, it's a fine solution I think.

Another good/great source of Python tricks/idioms is Raymond Hettinger's "Idiomatic Python". The slides/videos are really great. I highly recommend them. https://speakerdeck.com/pyconslides/

I think the comparison is more readable as (here with the >>> of the python shell): >>> 0 < x < 1 as opposed to >>> 1 > x > 0 Following the number line and placing x there is nicer IM

Tests written after are still tests. It may not be 'test driven development', but they are still tests, and TDD is not the final answer IMHO.

Right, but autofill doesn't split at logical english meaning. This is what I was trying to say.

A good advise is to split sentences between lines at logical places, like commas, dots, etc so the diff will be easy to read.

On the good side, once you are used to the keys, the text editing part is pretty efficient. Also, you have access to a lot of the other modes once you want to step out of the C++ tasks, to look at other files (makefiles, log files), keepin

Sad news, such an original individual and truly a giant of Mathematics. To imagine he invented Lebesgue measure theory on his own in his late teens. I remember reading that when he was sent to study under Schwartz and Dieudonne in Nancy (if

The floating windows reminds me of the text editor called sam. You have floating resizable windows in the editor, one window being a command window to operate on the current buffer text. It's a powerful idiom . Here's a screensho

Well it's both really. The formatting fixes offered by gofmt are definitely a popular success. You always hear/read about how great it is to have completely removed the code formatting debates (and it is).

Interesting to see surprise usages like that for such a small/simple language like Go; makes you wonder about the amounts of trickeries available in more complex languages.
