By 2014, the Tegra X1 was already picked as the Switch SoC. From digging at history threads: The alternative SoC option they had was a quad-A53 SoC with Decaf (a Wii U GPU cut in half with Wii backwards compat gone) co-designed with STMicro

Not decent at all in the sense that ROCm never supported any of them. Oh and sadly limited to 128-bit memory buses. Orin is at twice the mem bw in this regard, hopefully AMD will address that.

The big cache is irrelevant for this use case. You're memory bandwidth bound, with a substantial portion of the model read for each token, so that a 128MB cache doesn't help.

No, the main board wasn't external at that time. The Wallaby were a different design.

> why is it so cheap Using a high volume Amazon chip. Sadly the software stack is not what this thing deserves. It's a full blown DPU used with something very minimalistic SW wise.

Azure DevOps gets wide internal use at least: Windows source code is hosted on it.

Samsung devices in non-US locales don't have locked bootloaders. You can import a Galaxy phone from Hong Kong or the EU for example. The lockdown in the US seems to be driven by carriers

The patent list: https://www.sisvel.com/xlin7ipl485u/7fUBcCW149MkF6Gbp7w7iY/0... You can't counter sue Sisvel as Sisvel is just a patent pool, they don't make products.

Extended security update support by Qualcomm is very much possible if you're a big OEM, but can be quite expensive. If you don't get money after the sale of the device, even $1 can be too much to pay for on that front.

The XuanTie C910 is a shockingly slow RISC-V CPU core, don't expect miracles out of this one... (performs _far_ below the advertised A72-class numbers in practice)

OpenC910 and XuanTie C910 are different cores. The latter has RVV 0.7.1 for example while the open-source version does not have it.

The Witcher 3 on Switch is a Vulkan title for example. While a lot of titles aren't Vulkan, some heavyweights on the platform are.

Yes. Note however that the Pixel line shipped with Hexagon access restricted for non-platform Android apps however. But on other devices, things should just work.

Qualcomm has a part in maintaining that confusion sadly. While Hexagon and HVX are publicly documented ISAs, HTA (legacy), HMX and friends are not publicly documented ISA extensions.

Arm (both 32 and 64-bit) supports both BE and LE. Switchable at runtime so that you can have a BE VM on an LE host just fine. Apple Arm chips however are LE only, but all of Arm's Cortex-A/Neoverse and NVIDIA's cores support

Leverage on music was much bigger because of the position that Apple had at the time, together with CDs not having DRM. That was a unique situation that couldn't be replicated later for video and other media sadly.
