how would that look with type inference? You can write var x = 5 how would that work if the type had to be first? Languages that added inference later tend to have “auto” as the type which looks terrible.

Proper configuration of cryptography should not be abdicated to application developers or operators: https://go.dev/blog/tls-cipher-suites > The Mozilla SSL Configuration Generator is great, and it should not exist.

I just read the post and didn’t find it contrived at all. The point is to simulate a) network isolation and b) loss of recent writes.

> while manually corrupting the log file To be fair, since without fsync you don't have any ordering guarantees for your writes, a crash has a good chance of corrupting your data, not just losing recent writes. That's why in Po

Only replication is built-in, you need to add a cluster manager like Patroni to make it highly-available.

I cannot tell you about implementation difference but what I mean is that this only talks about Rosetta 2 for Mac apps. Rosetta for Linux is a feature of the Virtualization framework that’s documented in a completely different place. And th

How do you build multi-arch in CI? Do you cross-compile or do you have arm64 runners?

The OP says nothing about Rosetta for Linux.

Many container images are multi-arch, although probably not ones that are built in-house.

Isn’t that part of Rosetta also used in their own Game Porting Toolkit?

It doesn’t say if that is going away. The message calls out another part as sticking around: > Beyond this timeframe, we will keep a subset of Rosetta functionality aimed at supporting older unmaintained gaming titles, that rely on Intel

Yeah, this seems bad strategy for a company that wants to sell you on their PostgreSQL expertise.

The article mentions the new async IO in PostgreSQL v18 in the section on write tuning but it’s only relevant for reads.

I have started to use batching with the Go pgx driver for simple transactions of multiple inserts. Since a batch is automatically a transaction, it’s actually fewer lines of code.

It’s slow because it forces a write to disk. I don’t think the syscall itself matters much.

You need write barriers for the ordering guarantees of a WAL. that’s why Apple uses barrier sync and not full sync. AFAIK other operating systems do not have this distinction.

What do you mean by atomic deployment? There are no transactions in the Kubernetes API. Helm has to make one request for each object it creates or modifies, like any other client.

PostgreSQL does not have built-in clustering but Patroni does it automatically. MySQL Group Replication isn‘t automatic in all cases, like starting after all nodes failed, and it has some limitations, but it is built-in. Not saying that Mon
