It's matching std::vector's implicit constructor which takes two iterators, which can be initialized with any pointer. Note that it won't compile with one, three, or more string-literal char*s, but exactly two.

In our region of the US, charter schools have come in and fucked up the whole process so we can't even make those kinds of reasonable municipal policy choices.

The busses aren't running because our spendthrift government "cut spending" to enable property tax cuts. This is a big unspoken part of the charter-school transition.

No disagreement here, but the question is how to escape the world we're in, not just dismiss it as someone-else's-problem.

The schools are not located in places that have walking access, so that's a "subsidy" unavailable to anyone.

If you live somewhere hostile to walking, like Los Angeles, that's not an option. You're describing living somewhere that's already solved the car-oriented urban-hellscape problem a priori.

In the burbs where I grew up, there were huge school lots so cars waiting for pickup didn't overflow onto the road.

FWIW, there's no parking requirements for schools where I live and the effect is giant traffic jams on the roads outside schools during pickup hour. Hardly more "family friendly."

Article's recommendation is just another meaningless tug in the tug-of-war over parking. Conspicuously unmentioned is the public pressure to deal with "you have to drive everywhere and there's no parking when you get there.&q

Skimming [1], Virgil Layouts resemble ArrayBuffers in JavaScript -- a boxed view of some native span of memory. If I'm reading that right, it's basically an escape-hatch from the GC for "mixed" environments -- the buffer

(1) the pivot from rcu to general purpose tracing gcs is bait-and-switch. (2) Manual memory management is more than just malloc/free calls -- it's about layout (e.g. struct-of-arrays, inlining, implicit offsets, packing, etc)

"non-games" makes sense since films/vfx don't generate the sales royalties that games do -- compared to the cut they take from successful games, this is actually really cheap. And it's a _lot_ cheaper than "no

Optimization and functional recursion is nice and all, but the unsung killer-feature of (mandatory) TCO is to (ab)use the stack as a state-machine. Each "state" is a function which tail-calls the next state, so it replaces the sta

Oh yeah, wheee, I'm not carefully reading. Maybe it's vestigial leftovers from a port from c to c++ (major impls handle it in C++ like in C but the standard insists it's UB).

There is no rise in crime, but people polled say they believe there is. It's a textbook case of Chomsky's manufactured consent phenomena. It's not a drive-by comment, it's simply concise.

Safety without context is Apples-to-Oranges. I could write a compiler which simply rejects any possible source-text you send it and check "compile time" for every box and offer "greater safety guarantees" than Rust.
