Tier 1 is default alive and thriving. They don't need the smartest people. They need people who do not screw up. Someone who's willing to spend 3-6 months cramming interview questions is also someone who is unlikely to drop the ba

"except JavaScript" This might be the most accurate answer in the thread lol. It's like the river and the sea, there's just a barrier between them with entirely different ecosystems.

I like Sublime Text because it's fast, has multiple cursors. And it's pretty. It's redundant with Obsidian but it just feels good.

It's also a common interview question before the standard became movie listings. I believe the bootcamp and university standard is food delivery apps now. There's plenty of code out there, but the student ones are underengineered

Is there a good to do list app? I'm thinking of forking one to run it through some LLMs (e.g. shopping list), but I haven't found any I'm happy with. I might just open source one myself if that's the case.

I think the problem is also "Venezuelan banks". Bank runs tend to happen in these countries. A bank run is when people expect a bank to collapse, so they pull out money, forcing the bank into debt, and actually collapsing them. Th

Very often the problem is the customer acquisition channel too. HN might not be a good place to ask as we don't normally approach strangers needing to know anything about them. LinkedIn might be a better channel.

Why not JSON/XML? {"action": "create_directory", "value": "foobar/assets/"} is 15 tokens whereas create_directory("foobar/assets/") is 7 tokens. It's not the ex

Writing code for interfaces is an extra "cognitive layer" for the AI, just like it would be for a human. Let's say you want to add or delete Jira tickets. A MCP is like a big labeled button for the AI to do this, and it doesn

I wouldn't call it another form of API. It's more like an SDK. If you were accessing a REST API from Android, iOS, Windows, Mac, Firefox, they'd be mostly the same. But an SDK for Android and an SDK for iOS has been built for

Claude 3.7 feels overtuned. I asked it to write tests. It replicated my code into mocks and "monkey-patched" it to pass tests. Basically if it didn't pass tests, it will rewrite the mock to pass. It seems that cursor-thinking

I was just thinking similarly about my eyes. I'm seriously considering LASIK or similar, but there's plenty of anecdotes saying that it's not as safe as the data suggests. So I've been planning for blind coding and such

Me and my friends still make goatse jokes today. But the shock stuff is nowhere near as bad as the politics today IMHO. I grew up on IRC back when 9/11 happened. We'd talk about how radicalized the mujahideen were. And it was pube

The job is to learn each new framework though. I think AI will slow this for a while - people will stop adopting new frameworks for a while until AI does. But eventually we'll just switch gears to AI friendly frameworks instead.

It's because Google let go the Flutter team and now everyone's afraid to touch it because of long term maintenance. I personally strongly prefer Flutter over React Native. And with Cursor being fully compatible with Flutter, I

Ask them if they want feedback. If they're not ready for it or if they don't trust you, it's usually hurtful more than helpful. That conversation alone should give you a good hint of what to do next.

Personally I don't like applying to these companies because the false negative rates makes it feel like a lottery. I'd rather just do the other lottery and start a business.

I set up some syncing to AWS cloud thanks to GPT-4 several years ago. You can probably do the same thing today with AI agents and they'll even install aws cli and run the commands for you.

Larger armies are negative sum for everyone. Historically, per capita GDP was flat until the 18th century, because wealth was measured in gold and people thought the best way to be rich was to keep robbing and colonizing one another.

Fair enough, AI moves fast, but little has changed besides DeepSeek and the reasoning models. AI agents hit an inflection point around November, but people had always bet on them anyway. I don't consider GPT-4.5 or Claude 3.7 as major
