I like to point back at an ancient pattern in engineering: prototypes. Prototypes are built to learn. They're not optimized nor efficient. They don't scale. They discover what needs to be built and are then thrown away. They shoul

AI Agents used to be a fantasy, but they're completely the norm today. As in you tell the code to write what you want it to do - it'll make the changes then commit them. Just to show how far things have changed, the term "vib

It tends to happen more on front end I think, especially since it's in the tutorial and many haven't been given the training on what to do better. Not really AWS, but even the trained ones will put it in a .local.properties file o

Good points here. It's given me quite a bit to think of. Let's define censorship as the suppression of speech, ideas, communication, and information in general. Some people would say censorship is done by an authority. Let's

I've had more trouble with other ICs rather than leaders. It was a staff engineer role, very well paid. I was given a take home task for one interview. I did my research and looked into why they were hiring. I downloaded their app, rea

Many of them violate this guideline: "Comments should get more thoughtful and substantive, not less, as a topic gets more divisive." I'll try to pull a random recent example that isn't flagged: https://news.yc

8 months ago was such a different world. I think we're starting to see the first hints of societal collapse, so people are taking it a lot more seriously now.

I'm always surprised how nobody in these threads try to be the one who gives AI the job. A few years ago, everyone kept talking about how they were inspired by tim ferriss and rich dad poor dad to quit their jobs and become entrepreneu

I'm astonished at how fast the scene for AI daddy blew up. These apps are getting 100k+ downloads despite only being around for 4 months or so.

Bolt has been amazing at design, but it's a token hog - one instruction can drain a million tokens on a fairly small codebase. But if I were prototyping a loose idea with no idea where to start on UI/UX, the most efficient way wou

I'm confused. It does exist. The "markdown reqs" has been a thing at work. Shared markdown is in the code and we review it. Combine it with Cursor and you don't have to drag and drop or download anything. I just set up a

I do some AI training as a side gig and there has been a few recent updates on code-switching (i.e. speaking two languages at the same time) in the last few months. It's possible that these changes may have caused such behavior recentl

Fun fact: HN was down once because both the disks failed at 40000 hours. https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=32026606 It's amazing that it's almost never down, unless it's especially obscure things like this

Research should not be done in surveys. The old way was at least a powerpoint presentation, vertical slice, or a wishlist. However, people have gone wise to wishlists. Prototypes are the new PPT and faster to set up. Customer interviews ten

With vibe coding these days, you can just ready, fire, aim if it's simple enough. If it takes a month to do research, but a weekend to build a prototype, just build the prototype and show them to the customer.

A very common example is art. Most people love to draw things like characters or landscapes. But the real world application of art is usually ads, logos, and posters. There's significant skill overlap, but little passion overlap.

You ask the VCs for feedback. Being turned down isn't rejection, it's a data point. Do it early. Don't "practice" on people who don't know what they're talking about. Often friends aren't simply polit

Oddly enough, I try to search for paid software because if I buy a game, I want to be able to complete it. Not like pay $5/month to access half the game, and another $50 to get to the final 20%, and another $100 to get to the final 5%.
