Possibly, but why not design widgets so that no such consensus is necessary. Prior GUIs did not need it and now literally billions of people are burdened with it.

I had a similar experience when switching from JS to Dart. I am not using any framework just plain old DOM as my projects tend to be smallish. But programming in Dart is a real joy.

Often the rendering of GUI elements happens in an off-device image buffer which is then copied periodically to the device. This can be very slow in python if bit-fiddling is involved. Sometimes utilizing numpy for the copy can help a lot.
