I did not ask if you ever misplaced a top secret prototype device, and quite honestly I'm a little appalled that you feel you would be above making "foolish" mistakes. I asked if you ever misplaced anything valuable or anything that mattere

So news articles about sexual abuse should include the name, age and address of the victim? After all, who is to say it is not relevant to the story.

Guilty? As in, culpable? I am baffled by your willingness to burn someone at the stake for an honest mistake. Have you never misplaced anything valuable, left something behind by accident? Also, Gawker could have easily reported on this sto

My first CS course in college was Structure and Interpretation of Computer Programs. It was quite a thrill when we finally got our hand-written Scheme interpreter to run itself and give us a REPL prompt. Turtles all the way down.

Not to be overly cynical, but I suspect that someone from Apple PR is actually writing these emails. I can't imagine Steve himself is actually going through all customer email.

I'm rooting for RISC in this round of the RISC vs. CISC saga. X86 is so bloated and legacy ridden that it is great barrier to entry to the CPU/compiler space, and that's the way Intel likes it.

I think Microsoft is understandably hesitant to buy another creative cellphone design shop after the "synergies" failed to materialize after their acquisition of the maker of the Sidekick, Danger Inc.

Ironically, your post bad mouths fnid2 without justification the same way fnid2's post does to Fred Wilson. There's some deep commentary about online discussions in there somewhere.

This reminds me of the time Pakistan's AS accidentally blocked YouTube for the whole world. They accidentally published a very specific routing rule pointing YouTube's IP addressed to some machine in their network. This sucks even more than

I agree with these tips generally except for this one, Tip #4: Don't mention a naive algorithm to fill time . When confronted with a novel and tough problem it makes perfect sense to start out from the most obvious solution and think your

I would not mind as much if the policy read like it was intended to prevent ballot stuffing. Instead, it reads like an elitist minority realizing that they are outnumbered and setting up barriers to the participation of opposing viewpoints.

Apparently Wikipedia's policy on "canvassing" forbids anyone from soliciting "outside" supporters to join discussions you care about. One of Wikipedia’s favourite guidelines is the one on canvassing. You see, if an article you’re intereste

Why are we taking McAfee's word on what happened again? They never claim to have directly investigated Google, and from what I can tell Google isn't their client. They are purely extrapolating based on other companies they work with. This j

Obviously this is the current solution. I was pointing out that laptop manufacturers could remove the need for fiddling with your power connection by automatically disconnecting the computer from the battery when it is not needed.

Seems a little bit light on content. Yes, these are alarming phrases, but just listing four phrases does not necessarily make a noteworthy article.

So, why don't laptops completely bypass the battery when the battery is charged and the power is plugged in? If the laptop can work when the batteries are removed, it should be able to cut-off power to/from the battery when fully charged as

Burning, oxidization of hydrocarbons, is very much a chemical process. It generates heat, if they have somehow found a way of making it generate electricity directly, that would be really interesting.

I think they just announced a highly-efficient natural gas electric generator. The question is just how efficient, if it's as efficient as the large centralized power plants we now build then we don't have to waste money on building and mai

Sounds like Anarchists were the Terrorists of the early 20th century; unless contained they would bring about the end of Western Civilization as we know it. I wonder what new amorphous threat we will worry about a hundred years from now. Fr
