I use borgbase (they support restic) - backblaze with their s3 backend, and my own servers. So server A will copy to server B and vis-versa every ~10 minutes snapshot for quick/easy restoration should it be necessary, then nightly bac

I used tarsnap for years, but as my data got bigger and I really wanted to have multipe offsite backups with different providers, I moved to restic. I loved tarsnap - it's a great product. But restic feels very similar but you can bac

I am obviously being a dick to prove my point on what a pathetic argument "It was public there's NOTHING we can do now" is.

Thanks - wasn't aware. (why: certificate-transparency, open-research-datasets, webwidecrawl) I still don't fathom why they just _ignore_ the request not to be scraped with the above headers. It's rude.

Thank you - I started my diary in Oct 2000 and I didn't hear the term until after then. Or I chose to ignore it, it's that long ago I can't recall :) I have updated my comment above.

It's a personal diary - very mundane. I don't _want_ to pollute search with the fact I struggled with getting my socks on yesterday because of my bad back. Yes I could password protect it (and any really personal content is locked

A totally fair question. I want to be in control of my content is the simple answer. Yes, I know it being public means I've already "lost control" in that you can scrap my website and that's that. But you scraping my w

I love RSS. I am a huge fan of TinyTinyRSS, it's incredibly powerful with its filtering. I subscribe to just masses of RSS feeds, and the filtering bubbles up the stuff I'm interested in, ignores the stuff I'm not, and dele

Before AI was a thing, that same sentiment was true for almost every startup, especially the ones that had "get" in their domain name. Yet here we are.

You might not be old enough to remember how much everyone hated JavaScript initially - just as an in-browser language. Then suddenly it's a standalone programming language too? WTH?? I assume that's where a lot of the hate comes f

This is one thing I love about it too, Obsidian Sync is very well done and great for moving text files around the place easily.

There is so much wankery around Obsidian, it's so cringleworthty. Obsidian is a nice/fancy editor for markdown files. That's all it is really. People have created so many addons to bolt so much stuff onto it, but that'

Sort of, but it's not really designed to be "block first" though you can configure it to do that.

You said they banned adblockers. This is provably wrong, as there are still many working adblockers in the Chrome Store. They certainly reigned in what Adblockers are capable of doing and made it much easier for websites to bypass them etc

Love the idea - I wonder what I can use in New Zealand though - these things can't be shipped to NZ (Note I'm not surprised by this fact, I didn't expect NZ to let in random loads of mosquito killing bacteria)

Hasn't this been common knowledge for ~15 years? In NZ there are laws to stop this, but the retailers just set their pricing high/low on the shoulder dates so as not to fall foul of the law. Almost nothing is a Sale anymore.
