Well we don't need a TV at all. Or a 2,000 square foot house, or an education. We could just subsistence farm or something. Your life is what you make out of it. I work hard, think consumerism is dumb, and I generally spend my extra in

Have you considered coming to study in the United States and obtaining a bachelor's degree? Software development is in high demand in all aspects here. At worst you get a break from your current life, at best you start a new one. Let m

Well, it's most likely some sort of licensing issue. If Netflix could show you all the same content that it does in the U.S. for the same price they absolutely would.

I agree with this sentiment (and I've made come related comments), but if you can afford to put your business in the "trendy" area you should do so because of the type of people it attracts, and because of the creative enviro

Move out of the bay area then. That area is one of the most expensive places on the planet. You're not going to find "cheap" developers because they can't afford to be in expensive.

Meh, not all the great programs are on the coasts. Any Big 10 school (carrying on with the football reference lol) is going to be at least decent, and a few are world class: Carnegie Mellon (not a Big 10 school I know) #1 globally Michigan

Check out The Walkable City by Jeff Speck or Suburban Nation. I believe both of those books touch on the lack of use of parking spaces. Especially with city codes requiring a certain number of spaces for businesses or residential structures

Yeah it would be nice of them to allow that. Personally I don't care since I would never use Gmail but I can understand how that would be frustrating.

Sure I was just pointing out that they do exist at least as far as I could tell. On iOS I use Focus and Safari and that has been pretty good for me. Obviously that's not something that would work on Android.

A couple of quick points: 1. Autonomous vehicles are going to drive down the cost of essentially hailing a taxi to the point that it will become an affordable alternative. What we need to do is make it so painful to drive yourself to desira

Well the benefits of the suburbs are that they usually don't have a lot of through traffic, and you can have a large house or lot. And no my vision for these fixed suburbs would involve the removal of most parking garages and lots, so

Well, you can't have your cake and eat it too. If you want to live in a desirable area you have to deal with people going to that area for various reasons. And mostly you wouldn't have traffic problems anyway because people who di

In regard to traffic, I think you just let it happen, and provide metered parking on the streets. If the traffic gets bad enough then people will use the bike lanes between the cars and sidewalk, or the sidewalks. One mistake I think we mak

As others have pointed out, you can still obtain the benefits of the suburbs while not having to live in a suburban desert. If you wanted to fix the suburbs, you'd have to change zoning laws and make those areas much more walkable. Tha

Hmm that doesn't seem to make sense. Free markets (which include the vast majority of countries on the planet) enable people to create wealth. Maybe some sort of mix of a planet-wide initiative and the normal free markets we have would

But most of the country doesn't live in New York or San Francisco. In somewhere like, say, Columbus it's much cheaper for a developer to build cookie-cutter mansions than to plop down a new sky scraper in the city.

Right. Or like in France wearing a burqa will get you in trouble, or in Australia if you watch porn where the woman's vagina isn't state approved you'll get in trouble. There are all sorts of laws all over that just insane.
