I think it makes a difference, because it shifts the burden of proof. If fair use is a kind of infringement, then it’s up to the “infringer” to prove fair use. I think that’s ethically and legally backwards: the copyright holder should have

Fair use is not a copyright violation! It’s a limitation placed on copyright to balance the interests of copyright holders with the public interest.

Why would other pros say “nuh-uh, that’s not a thing”? I thought the concept of a tell was widely known.

What the heck is a “physical read” in poker? Is that like a person having a tell? (Something they do that is unintentionally revealing.)

I used CFR to solve another card game called Setback (aka Auction Pitch), which is a trick-taking game that’s similar to, but simpler than, Bridge. CFR is very effective, but slow and requires a lot of RAM. I had to create a smaller, abstra

Can you elaborate a bit more? That’s actually just a claim, not a legal argument. Copyright law allows for transformative uses that add something new, with a further purpose or different character, and do not substitute for the original use

Let me save you a click and a long read: the innovation is Combat roach traps, which contain a poison bait that a roach brings back to the nest and transfers to other roaches. This resulted in a 93% drop in roach complaints in one survey.

“Publishers frequently send advance copies to readers in exchange for online reviews that they hope will generate buzz.” That seems reasonable to me. I’m sure newspapers would do the same.

I wonder how long this will last. Once their copyright expires in a few decades, anyone can be KISS, either digitally or in real life. (E.g. No one had to ask Napoleon’s estate for permission to portray him in the recent movie.)

Anyone who appreciates the benefits of simplicity should skip Go and try functional programming instead. The basic tenets are a model of mathematical simplicity: * Values are immutable * Functions are pure (i.e. no side-effects) * Functions

As a professional who uses F# every day, I appreciate this answer, even though it concerns me. Separating concepts from practical details is worthwhile, but can be taken too far. I think the FP community probably focuses a bit too much on t

I don't think anyone is suggesting that Go should be like Rust. It's too late for that. We're suggesting that people should just use Rust (or Haskell, or F#, or any other robust functional programming language) instead.
