I interpreted it like this: deaths are less expensive than lost productivity. This might actually hold given the groups that are the most at risk are probably least productive: the old and the infirm.

This is the right answer. And it’s also why mortality could potentially shoot up to the +/- 7% of patients that need ICU care, if that capacity is exceeded.

This virus is so easily transmitted that one needs a significant percentage of the population to be resistant before new epidemics won’t happen every time it is reintroduced. So 60-70%. With a little luck there’s a still larger group of asy

In a zero-based budgetting system, maybe. But given that any opponents will just present such a change as a huge additional expense and very much big government, do you really expect it to get much support?

Thanks for summarizing. Plenty here are going to have parents in 70-79 (like I do) or 80+. And I really don’t like those odds.

That's indeed the nicer way of paginating, but it breaks if the underlying resultset changes between requests. Which is exactly when cursor based pagination is generally used.

It is, but it's still not quite there yet for productivity, I feel. We'll see what the next generation brings, but GPUs better keep up, as even the resolution of the Valve Index is already really punishing on the hardware.

What do you mean, eventually? You haven't followed the Windows analytics debacle?

This is interesting. Do you have any examples in mind that achieve this? Whether in particular niches or solving common problems throughout small business?

Part of NVC is also similar to '5 times why'. These might be surface desires, with the ones you mention being another layer of underlying desires. It's an interesting exercise in itself to do this with your own desires.

Why? Is there any way to be certain these are done in hardware and can’t be caught in a low level system once the device is rooted? It’s a black box, so no way to know until somebody manages to pull it off.

There is a perfectly good alternative which is encrypted DNS or DNS-over-TLS. That should be implemented instead. Sure it’s harder, because it’s decentralized, but that’s the whole point of DNS.

First step for moving email from any provider is getting your own domain name. All decent providers allow it and it’s not hard to set up. You will never have to update any accounts with new email addresses ever again.

DoH in Firefox will bypass your pihole too and have all your DNS data go to cloudflare to boot.

DoT and running your own recursive resolver is better still.

Exactly. And Mozilla could easily offer this instead and benefit other applications the user has.
257.
▲

But the proper solution for that is DNS-over-TLS and picking or running your own recursive DNS resolver.

For forwarding yes, but not for recursive resolution.

I don't really see a solution without installing root CA's to MitM HTTPS traffic. I too would be interested in solutions for this.

Ooh, that's an interesting tack. I wonder if Firefox stores cookies or sends enough headers for fingerprinting DoH requests.

Take a look at Privoxy. It's mostly useless now with everyone defaulting to HTTPS unless you install a root certificate on all your devices.

SNI allows hosting multiple SSL Certificates on one IP, but is itself a privacy problem, because https requests have the domain in plain text. ESNI can solve this, by encrypting the SNI header while still allowing serving multiple https dom

Each of which individually generates really limited traffic? Besides, the number of domains and relatively short TTLs mean that even the big resolvers will not have most requests cached except for the most popular domains.

I’d love to use DoT, but afaik it’s currently mostly only supported by DNS resolvers (Google, CloudFlare and other privacy-exploiting companies) rather than authoritative DNS servers.

This. And I already have to deal with smart appliances that try to contact their own DNS (I’m looking at you, Samsung) and that break if I force their requests through my own resolver. This will just allow all applications and appliances to

I don’t get why sibling LifeLiverTransp is getting downvoted. One of the main ways games like fortnite sell their stuff is by social pressure. One can not customize one’s avatar at all without buying stuff. So you’ll be stuck as a default c

The price for the replacement is also higher if your battery isn’t actually in need of replacement. Basically apple subsidizes (compared to their higher pricing anyway) the other parts when replacing the laptop body to get the battery repla
