I used to be a hired gun that would be called in occasionally to, like you, code circles around bigger teams when deadlines were tight. Last few years however I decided to stick around with one of my clients for a while and I realized that

Do you have actual experience with developers of similar skill levels building a similar app in Spring and Rails? While undoubtedly less expressive I think most of the bad rep Spring gets is because it's used in "Enterprise", which means pr

It's perfectly possible to POST to a URL with GET query parameters. For Google though I'm not sure you'd want POST requests at all; unless it's to set cookies and do a redirect on POST.

Excessive hoarding is obviously dangerous to a currency though. Imagine a fixed supply of 1.000.000 coins and suppose 99 people managed to nab 10.000 coins initially and are just sitting on them. The bitcoin economy will then run as though

Looks pretty cool. You probably want to at least show me what I will receive in my email before making me actually verify my email address though. What I would really want though is a twitter client that will condense all the missed tweets

I wasn't aware of the feminist's support for these men's rights issues, which is admirable and good to know. As far as your last comment is concerned; my support for women's rights comes out of having been gay and now being somewhere on the

I'm an ardent supporter of women's rights, but I'm also a supporter of the men's rights movement. The (valid part of the) men's right movement is mostly concerned with men who: * have been raped or faced domestic abuse, but are met with r

I for one absolutely love this initiative. If I wasn't bootstrapping my company I would fly over this weekend just to be there. Issues of gender are generally really hard to capture in words and lend themselves much more to being relayed

While trying to learn how to sell I once tried to sell charity on the street for a single day. Already in that first day one of the less attractive, but probably more skilled, co-workers told me that in most cases you're actually selling 'h

I'm still curious what would happen if we: a) have a pill for every disease b) give placebos if we don't have anything better c) A/B-test viable new alternative drugs (or maybe multi armed bandit's minimum regret is appropriate here ;) That

I think unwanted sexualization is a recurring theme in feminism and in Adria's perception this was an instance of that. Most people wouldn't and hence it's reserved for more radical feminists, but it's definitely done under the banner of fe

I read Amanda's piece and until raganwald's it was indeed the best piece I had read so far. Amanda however vilifies Aria because she considers her too easily offended and finds her feminist agenda obnoxious. I don't, because I believe she h
