Yes, the way I read this request (and Yelen’s response) the government’s “commitment” is meant to provide a floor for private offers so as to immediately address concerns, not as a primary path forward.

The solvency gap is minuscule and there are known buyers lining up. They will pay a premium to acquire the business of 40k companies (and whatever is left of the brand) and that capital (along with the assets) is ensuring creditors are made

Not my own personal experience obviously, but “Burn Rate: Launching a Startup and Losing My Mind” by Andy Dunn talks about the kind of mental breakdown you’re describing. It’s a surprisingly engaging and self-aware book about manic depressi

That seems like the obvious interpretation though, rather than a surprise. What does a hypothetical exchange-issued token look like that could “fail” the Howey test?

Mazars is supposed to be quite reputable. How they would agree to this, and endanger their entire firm, is beyond me. But then again, plenty of VCs also agreed to lend their reputation (and capital) to crypto firms with opaque finances and

What does it even mean to audit a company that doesn’t follow or reconcile to GAAP (or equivalent)? Are there examples in any other industries?

Does Mazars have a consulting arm ready to spin off if the audit side runs into a brand-killing debacle? Edit: they do! Maybe they can rebrand as “Emphasast”, to put the emphasis on the past. :D

This is kind of Gresham's law for crypto. Bad ethics drive good ethics out of the market. Amusingly, this is often studied in the context of how deregulation led to the S&L crisis, i.e. a direct parallel.

For personal use I rely on GitJournal. It plays really well with obsidian + git on laptop. I haven’t automated 1-click note-level publishing; instead I have a personal website that renders markdown. For collaboration I default to Google Doc

Notion is Sharepoint for zoomers. It’s an okay wiki with slow UX, underwhelming collaboration, and a slew of tacked-on over-engineered features that have better alternatives elsewhere.

On your phone you might want to try GitJournal. It plays really well with obsidian + git, for traditional markdown.

I’d be concerned about the security risk caused by their browser plugin, especially given their track record. Grammarly is usually a complete no-go once you have an infosec team.

That's exactly the problem I had while traveling this month. I just posted about my setup: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=32512576 -- so far it's been great. See also nextdns.io for a turnkey alternative.

I’ve really enjoyed The Secret Life of Programs by Jonathan E. Steinhart. From analog signals, to gates, to cpus and memory, and so on all the way up. Very cool concept, well executed.

iOS says Tailscale used 3% of my battery in the past 24 hours, far far beyond Firefox at 70%. If so, this setup might actually save me battery life by reducing how much I need to download and render when browsing. I imagine that everyone’s

Yep, that's completely fair. In fact, I'm pretty sure that's the setup described by @QuinnyPig with a Pi-hole in their home lab and all devices meshed together via Tailscale (so WireGuard really). I have a bit of latency reac

Very interesting! This made me realize that if someone is willing to give up the NextDNS apps and simply rely on their DNS nameservers, then they might still want to use Tailscale as a way to automatically enforce NextDNS nameservers for al

Agreed! In fact, I have NextDNS listed as an alternative in the README. To be fair though, the "VPN" here is peer-to-peer and, in the case of the Pi-hole, only used for DNS. We're not talking about tunneling all traffic. Acco

I think you're correct. The machine key[^1] is really just the public-private key pair that drives identity across tailscale. It should be possible to store it on a persistent fly.io volume or to store it as a secret passed on startup.

From Pi-hole deployed on the closest edge pop, I'm seeing 32 ms roundtrip on average for ICMP pings. Definitely negligible compared to the time saved from _not_ loading a bunch of trackers and ads.

Didn’t SBF make his fortune in the crypto space? By definition this would mean capturing real money from retail investors, right? It’s possible that this money can be reallocated more “effectively” according to some quantifiable measure ide
