I seem to remember from anatomy and physiology that most body cells don't really divide, the exception being epithelial cells, which are constantly being produced and shedding. So I'm not sure that DNA damage would tend to get pro

Btw, here is a simpler technique I've used for shortening over-long if-statements: Replace if(A) { // 300 lines of code... } else { return FALSE; } with if(!A) { return FALSE; } // 3

I disagree that the problem was valid. The fact that code doesn't look right to somebody isn't a problem, it's just somebody's opinion. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Using min-max heaps should be workable; indeed, the resulting data structure seems to be a special case of the data structure described in section 3 of [1]. [1] http://www.cs.otago.ac.nz/staffpriv/mike/Papers/

Interesting. One layout they did not consider is the bit-reversal permutation[1] of the sorted array. Searching is straightforward: to find element i, you reverse the bits of i -- so then, you can just binary search. This layout is similar

Independent doesn't sound like the same thing as undecidable. Given a program P, it is undecidable whether that program will halt. There is an answer: P either halts or it doesn't. There is just no way to find out (in general).

I'm trying to wrap my head around how P=NP could not have an answer, and I am not having much success. It could be that I am not educated enough to understand. Notwithstanding that, I don't see how any of this relates to my origin

p=np is a well-posed question, so clearly it must have an answer. We can't just make it an axiom. However, the thought occurred to me that perhaps p=np could reduce to some undecidable problem (in the halting problem-sense). In that ca

I would make that series of if-statements more obviously deterministic, for starters. One way of accomplishing that would be a bunch of nested if-else blocks. However, that would be ugly. I'd prefer something like continue statements -
