Interestingly spencerfry.com seems to be blocked by OpenDNS as "Proxy/anonymizer". I've experimentally flagged it for review.

There's no career path to get good at development. As soon as you get good at development, you start getting promoted into roles where you increasingly do things that aren't development. Is it any surprise that developers aren't good when c

It's a lot more complicated than that. For example, if I ask a small question today, I'll get an answer and get with the task quickly. But I'll only have a small bit of information, so I'll be back tomorrow, the day after, and so on. Wherea

Function::Parameters looks like more or less what I was looking for, although I continue to think the perl6 option is a little cleaner.

I certainly have problems myself. pg clearly does too. I get the feeling it's widespread beyond that.

Downloaded it for a quick experiment. Points I've noticed so far: * It needs perl5 to build. * Hello World still works. * Perl can now compete with Java for slow startup. * One of my pet perl hates, the inability to write "sub foo($a, $b, $

I've had positive results with the pcengines alix boards for routers: http://www.pcengines.ch/alix.htm . I suspect they'd work well for other server use.

I've long felt the key is to get the interviewee to do some real work for a day. Pair programming seems like it might work well. You'd have to come up with some suitable toy problems that you could make significant progress on in a day.

The thing that always interests me in these discussions is: Apparently believing you can achieve through hard work increases your achievement over believing you're born good or bad. What I'm curious about is how much this is actually true,

Apache, I don't really like it, but it's convenient. I retain a lingering fondness for dan bernstein's publicfile http://cr.yp.to/publicfile.html but don't actually use it.
