Well, he'll be saving $65M in capital gains taxes by selling this year before the rate increases to 20%. No doubt that was a consideration.

I really wonder how much time the author has spent with a modern IDE like Eclipse. For Java development, it really does have all of the features on his wish list, or something equivalent.

I just replaced the 5400rpm drive in my Macbook Pro with an OCZ Vertex2 SSD. The performance improvements for many things are dramatic. I did some very unscientific before-and-after measurements.. * Cold boot (Power button to login screen

Agreed. Technical Debt is a great metaphor for explaining these concepts to non-developers. http://forums.construx.com/blogs/stevemcc/archive/2007/11/01... Short-term technical debt can speed development, but like credit card debt, it qu

It sounds HP's suit is based not on a non-compete agreement, but a provision of his $35M severance package in which he agreed not to disclose trade secrets or confidential info. That's the impression I got from the article, anyway. I suppo

This is the first version where conformance to RubySpec was made a high priority. It now passes over 99% of the spec. This is great news for the community because it makes it much easier for alternative ruby implementations to remain comp

Yes to all of your reasons, but I think you missed the biggest one: - Many of us produce and sell software and we understand that pirating makes it harder for people like us to make a living at it.

Going over the 200MB plan isn't such a big deal, as long as you don't go waay over. I'm in the same boat. On average, even with the occasional overage I'll probably be spending less than I did with the $30 unlimited plan.

I wrote a little scraper to keep track of the money raised over time. The NY Times article really gave them a boost, which eventually flattened out only to pick up again in the last 24 hours. http://spreadsheets.google.com/pub?key=0AqAXxp
